junk yard efi for a trail truck
looking at going away from propane injection sick of hauling 5 tanks around and having to search to get them filled on trips. Now ive looked into speed density 460 swap the heads intake computer into my truck but then i stumbled across maf swaps and was wondering if anyone here has done one from what i see and can find is they are using crown vic throttle body and mass air sensor than a mustang ho engine harness and computer other than that details are vague. yes i know you can buy a fi tech fuel injection kit for 1000 but im cheap and like building junk yard part stuff that works

I have thought about that ^^^^ myself. Did you figure out the distributor yet? My idea was to graft the two.

grafting distributors? yep I was going to till I found an HEI on ebay for $75cdn shipped. If you could find a donor truck the tbi swap would be easy.

If you get a 1990 model or earlier they had TH400's so the ECM did not control the transmission and you don't have to deal with that end of the swap. Get a 4bbl. to throttle body adpt. the sensors dist. ect. and it should be pretty straight forward.

The only down side to a gm tbi is tuning , such as can change and some head work it doesn't like that I have gm buddies that I've asked for those parts and they said it'll run great unless you put cam headers intake and port the heads some than you will have to find a dinasour tgat still has windows 98 on something and can tune it for all that

it really comes down to a work-cost relationship. How much work are you willing/capable of doing? Is the cost of a late 460 top end swap cheaper than the time/work to do a conversion?
A guy could get carried away drilling and welding injector bosses into a carbd manifold using a vac or mech secondary carb deleted of fuel passages. add map sensor and crank pickup, knock sensor, temp sensor, ect.. Use a donor ford truck like an obd2 460 harness/computer.
No matter what, if you put a fancy cam in it it will need programming. We've had great success with HP tuner at our shop, but their support of "older" vehichles is not as great as I would like it to be.

Check out efidynotuning.com lots of great info on ford ecc tuning. You could go to a ecc v out of a newer ford like a crown vic and make it work with your 460. There is a guy building a BBF turbo mustang that's use a 2000 mustang computer and wiring harness to run his car. Plus you'd have obd 2 going to eec V. Decipha is the owner of the site and very help full and lots of other great people there to help you out.

Just another thought if you went to a EEC V you would need a crank and cam sensor. 64bit tuning concepts have cam sensors for 125 bucks. For the crank sensor you'd have to make a setup but that should be relatively easy.

Do the fi tech dude, your aggregation with junkyard stuff isnt worth it. How you going to tune it with factory ecu? What happens when you decide to change something or want to put a cam in it? With fi tech unit you are still good ti go..
