a set of A460 heads for 1200hp will be in the same neighborhood as C's with comparable valvetrain. Port work,ti valves and shaft rockers all cost real money. Laughing

I've heard the difference is $2,000 to $3,000 more for an all out set of C460 heads over an all out set of A460 heads if starting with all new parts. That's coming from a guy with a really, really good C headed 632.

It comes down to how much you put into the castings. All the parts that go on them are basically the same money. You can spend however much you want to on these things. Smile

That would be about as inexpensive as you'll ever get.

I agree 100% with you Randy. My first engine was a stock block 533 ci. 1st gen alum. cobra jet head engine. Mostly used stuff. Blake the snake helped me a bunch with cam heads and intake. It ran 5.50 in a stock susp. mustang. IE. the red one I wrecked so bad. It would step up to mid 5.30's . It ran it about 5 yrs before the block split. Yes it was on spray. I had about 6 g's in the whole set up.
My current set up is a alum. c&c block 605. Ahead I bought it used. Keith Fulp did it at engine systems. It makes 1040 something with a nos cam and a single 1350 on a tunnel ram. I'm in it at good price less than you would think, but I lucked into the big pieces from a limited street racer that lost his funding. It runs very easy 5.30's in 3000 lb car on 100 hp nos and a digi set turning it on a few tenths out. I won the 5.30 class at the memorial race with it. It runs much better with the wick turned up. I'll hold that one in the bag for now.
If your getting used stuff for high HP avoid cranks and rods hard to tell about them unless you know their history. Blocks and heads should go to the machine shop for check out.
I just have no time to race any more

The only way I can see it is doing what Randy said and finding one that's in need of a rebuild. I'm currently biuilding a forged 557 A head, i set out with a goal of 900 to 1000 hp. I ran a quick tab to see where I'm at as a comparison. These are ballpark numbers off the top of my head. Crank ,rods, gear drive from lunati -1200. TFS A heads 340 cc 3000. Intake 600. Pro gram caps 500. Oil system and gaskets, misc parts 1200. Machine work, balance, bearings, 2000. Pistons 1200. Total $9700. I still have to spend another 5-7k easily on valve train, fuels system, and misc parts. And I'm still going to be 2-300 hp shy of what you're wanting. I started out with D1 block that I e had for several years so that's not even in there.

Randy's idea is the best route imo. If you buy used parts like block, heads etc. and can assemble yourself you could possibly doit.Buying everything new.NO WAY
