A 460 Head Question
I am looking at an engine and the guy said they were A460 heads. I asked were they Trick Flow and he said no…who else makes them? Also the engine has an Ohio Crankshaft Specialties crank. I don’t know anything about these cranks. Thanks

Re: A 460 Head Question
The company that makes the EX514 makes a A style head also. TFS is the most plentiful I would think.

Re: A 460 Head Question
1. If they are old style A-460 heads from Ford, there will be a cast in logo saying Ford Motorsports on the ends of the heads.
2. If they are old style A-460 heads from TFS, there will be a cast in logo, in large block letters saying TFS.
3. New style TFS A-460 heads are maching perfectly flat across the ends of the heads and the logo is engraved by CNC machining. It will say Trick Flow A-460.
4. The EX 514 A-460 style heads are machined flat across the ends of the heads,,,,,and they are engraved and say EX 514 Extreme Machine.
5. The IDT A-460 style heads are machined flat across the ends of the heads,,,,,and they are engraved and say IDT Eliminator.
That should take care of all the A-460 heads, next is the B-460 heads, but we won't go there.

Re: A 460 Head Question
Logan,
They all have potential,,,,,however many times the amount of power made depends on how good of a job is done by the person prepping the heads. Meaning the porting, the valve job and the flow testing.
Also what comes into play here is the size and cross sectional area of the intake port, mated up with the size of the engine that it's going on, and the rpm that will be turned by that engine. In other words we (as drag racers) would normally say that a 360 cc intake port may be a little too big on a 485 CID engine. However, it will not be too big for a truck puller that turns the engine 8500+ rpm.
Don't worry, you've made a good choice with your heads.
