Cometic Empty Cometic

Post  747JetMech June 4th 2018, 9:19 pm

Well this is my first time using Cometic Head Gaskets on my 572 CID, TFS and M 6010 A460 block. The Cometic package lable reads "Ford 429/460CI 4.630 BORE...... .080 MLS-5 HEAD-STOCK BLOCK... I installed these on my block and some of the small water holes do not line up. You guys probably run into this stuff all the time.. Is this ok? I was using copper head gaskets on the original build and massaged them a little and had no leaks or issues..

Thx

The first small hole next to the dowel on cyl # 1,  I had to drill the block. 1/4"Ø
And from memory, # 5 as well.

Cometic Empty Thanks

Post  747JetMech June 5th 2018, 7:06 am

I contacted Cometic this morning and asked if I can drill their gasket out to match.. I have a early Motorsport Block and was wondering if that is why they are not lining up. It's not all the holes but just some of the small ones.. I figured Ford put the holes there for a reason so I will do my best to make sure they flow..

Thx

Cometic Empty Gaskets

Post  747JetMech June 6th 2018, 10:26 pm

Hello,

I believe this is due to the gasket being a stock style 460 head gasket. You would need something for the A460. I would look into part number C5744-080

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> That is what I received from Cometic.

To drill or not to drill.... HMMMMMMmmmm

Gasket number is H1771SPD080S

The Cometic gaskets I stock have my special part #......the steam holes are in the correct place......I had them moved.

Cometic Empty Thanks

Lem, If these fail, I will reorder the correct ones from you. Water flows from front to back on the block and back to front on heads? I will make sure at least the rear holes match up. Maybe take a small rotary tool and open up the steam holes. Need to make sure that I get any burrs out between layers and any debris removed. What a pain...

Thanks
