Rocky Mountain Race Week 2018
This past week was one for the books. My 17 y/o son Jake and I took the now 302 powered Mustang on Rocky Mountain Race Week. This year, the folks behind RMRW decided to move the event East to see of they could generate more interest. It was a good move as they doubled their participation. The tracks this year were SRCA Great Bend, Heartland Park Topeka, Ozark Raceway Park (near Springfield, MO) and Thunder Valley in Noble, Ok. Unlike Drag Week, RMRW is a 7 day event with 2 drive days built-in. The schedule is fantastic. You basically alternate racing evening, morning, evening, morning and finally evening. What this does is relax the pace where you actually have time to visit, make passes, fix stuff, take pics and enjoy the event. DW has a tendency to turn into a "one and done" blur where you barely remember visiting any specific track. Matthew Frost is the guy behind RMRW and he makes the event awesome. Even though we had a 14 second car, he always made a point to come around ask about our week, how the car was running, etc. Class act. "Participant centered" is how I would describe this event. DW always seems to be disaster centered or 6 second car centered, largely ignoring the rest of the participants.
Jake had never made a pass down a quarter mile track.... ever. In addition, he has only been driving a 5 speed for about a month, so this trip was going to be a drag racing crash course. Little did we know it was literally a 'crash course' when Carlos Astor got loose, came across Jake's lane and obliterated the wall and his car. I'm sure you guys have seen the crash video on 1320 with a cameo of me jogging down the track to meet Jake.
I documented our week over on Bangshift.

Overall, it was one of the best weeks of my life, teaching my son, hanging out, laughing, and enjoying the event. We will certainly be doing RMRW again!!

That smile was worth it all.
Our little 302. It is plumbed for n2o, but we did not use it. We didn't even take a bottle.

That is very cool and congratulations. Team Z's anti roll bar could fix that body roll and would improved that 60' time and more than likely let him break in to the 13's.

The car has an arb, we just chose not to hook it up. Most of his launches were not like this. He just got a little happy with the clutch kn that particular pass. Made for a cool picture though!!
