Setting up an EGT is worthless unless you already know where your perfect tune is. O2s will tell you where you need to go. Put them in the tube, not the collector.

Familiarize yourself with plug readings!! AFR meters are a great tuning and monitoring addition to an engine, but to get a precise evaluation of the conditions inside the cylinders, reading the plugs is still the best method.

The problem is EGT's can be high or low (hot or cold) being both too rich or too lean.
A WBO2 is going to be your best option. An O2 sensor will tell what has happened while the spark plug will tell you what is happening in the chamber. I would suggest putting bungs (with caps) in each tube then you can move it from cylinder to cylinder to see what the tune up looks like. Keep in mind that it's just a number don't get hung up on the A/F see what gives you the best number on the score board. As far as your spark plugs go you may want to try different brands some plugs are easier to read than others.
