Anyone have experience with 1973 f250 powersteering boxes?
I took this truck to my alignment guy .He has been doing this quite some time and has done several vehicles for me so I trust and believe in him .My truck pulls to the right nothing you cant handle but it is annoying after a while .You can crank it up and as soon as it starts the steering wheel pulls to the right .My guy says he went down the road turned off the ignition and it stopped pulling to the right .I haven tried this myself but I believe him .He says there is a valve inside the power steering box causing this .Any body experienced this before? All I have done is to flush the pump and steering box to no avail..It seems that whenever you get everything hot it isn't so noticeable.I am just looking for some ideas and prior experience .Really if it had manual steering it would be fine with me but that means I need another box .Thanks ! Steering box needs rebuilt or replacing my 69 f100 did the same thing as yours. Check with Oralley that the only parts place here I found that still carry them but it's been a few years since I bought mine

Sounds like the steering box's internal torsion bar is tweaked, causing the pull. This can happen if PS system was run out of fluid and driven with no PS assist(hydraulic pressure) for the box. Have to pull and open the box to replace the torsion bar, best to just get a rebuilt/remanned box.

Bad slip rings.
The slip rings on the spool control valve have worn, possibly into the casting. Replace or rebuild but rebuilding requires special ring resizing tools.

Thanks for the replies .I really wish this truck had a manual box but by the time I find one and build it I could get the power box fixed .This old truck really drives good the frontend is tight if I get this box replaced I will have a keeper !Thanks Doug

Try redhead steering gears website they may be able to fix you up.I was just there the other day picking up a box for my son's 97 F-350.

Fixed!!
Redhead to the rescue ! According to them there is a valve inside the box that will cause your truck to pull to one side or another .It must be so I ordered a rebuilt steering box and a week later it was at my door .And about four hours later I had a good driving truck .I have no complaints they did what they said they would do .Shipping was painful but no problems so far .Doug
