What transmissions are available?
I am about to replace the 351C4V in my 73 Mach 1 with a 532. It is aluminum head, roller cam, FiTech rail EFI.
My wife has been driving a 73 Mach 1 with a 460/C6 for twenty years, so this swap is not a new thing for me.
My M1 is primarily a road tour car. It has a 2.75, aluminum, thru bolt, rear. 275-60-15 tires.
I am experienced with and comfortable with an E4OD. I built the one in my 7.3, turbo IDI, 9K# E350. I am putting one behind the 604 in a 55 Ford wagon. I built the floor to accommodate it. See link. I don't think I could reasonably put one in my 73 M1.

I have a BB C6 I could build. The M1 currently has a C6. I have ordered an upgrade book.
What else is there for a 460? No, I do not want a clutch, too much idling in traffic.

Do you want/need overdrive or a lockup converter?

You could do an AOD.

overdrive
Have you thought about an overdrive unit for your c-6?I believe Gear Vendors make a unit that replaces the tail shaft housing with it's overdrive unit .From what I have read on them they are bullet proof.Doug

But he would very likely have to modify the transmission tunnel for it to fit.manofmerc wrote:Have you thought about an overdrive unit for your c-6?I believe Gear Vendors make a unit that replaces the tail shaft housing with it's overdrive unit .From what I have read on them they are bullet proof.Doug

Re: What transmissions are available?
Does that 532 really need four gears? We know it doesn't but I know that you want something above 1 to1 in high gear.
Why not use the planetary from the E4OD in the C6 to give it wider gear spacing. Then put a small gear in the rear something around 3.00 to 3.50
The low first gear will allow you to reduce the ring and pinion ratio by .5 and still maintain overall first gear ratio.
E4OD
2.71 to 1.54 to 1.0
C6
2.4 to 1.4 to 1.0

Or you could do a GM 4L80 with a Ford bellhousing.
