Need cam recomondation/opinions
Need to see if this is the right camshaft for my application. I have a 1979 f150 that I do 300 ft sand drags.
Truck specs:
weight 5000lbs with driver
3.55 gear, but run in 4 low so 6.96 final drive
C6 built to Frank M sticky
34 inch tall tires
Cam specs:
Duration at .050 280in 288ex, gross lift .740 in .726 ex, lobe separation 112
Engine Specs:
572 cubic inches
SR71 heads
Mafia intake
10.5 to 1 compression, 93 octane fuel
1050 dominator
Was talking to a local engine builder, who does engines for some other sand drag guys and he thinks I need a cam with a lower separation angle to help get a heavy truck moving. He's mostly a Chevy guy, so would like the opinion of the Ford guru's.

Cam specs are from your engine guy?

I believe that is the current cam in the engine.

Lem,
Those are the specs from a cam Roger at Kasse sold me. Converter stall will be changed to match what engine needs.
Norm,
This is a new cam, old one had lifter rollers wear a grove in a couple of lobes

Lifter type?
Re: Need cam recomondation/opinions
Old ones were crower bushed lifters. Have read some have had that problem with them, but I believe it was my fault and not the lifters. Followed some advice I learned I should not have. Was told by dyno operator that they leave the set screw out of the polyloks for the rockers, when using a stud girdle. Ran it that way 2 seasons before saw what was happening without them in. Screwed the set screws in and lashed opened up .008 from were I had set. Live and learn

If you are looking for more low and mid range power? If so, using same or similar lobe, a narrower lsa would achieve that.
I.M.O. I'd think the SR71 heads would like more lift than your cam has.
