intake manifold
looking for advice regarding a single plane 4500 flange intake for TFS 290 heads. The engine is a 466, operates in the 4500-7500 range, strictly 1/8th drag car. I had a Victor 460 on it when it had C8s that were opened up to CJ size ports, the difference in port size between the Ported C8s and the 290s is substantial. someone suggested filling the ports with epoxy, but not sure I want to go that route.

Are the TFS ports bigger than your ported C8 heads?

Re: intake manifold
The TFS "Mafia" intake will fit regular heads.
The ports as received are slightly larger than the head port but, that won't detract from the final power.

Thanks for the responses, the C8s were heavily ported, the intakes were almost CJ dimensions, the TFS 290s are standard port size. Thanks for the info on the Mafia, I went on the Trick Flow site, they had the port dimensions: 2.4 x 1.825, slightly taller than the 290s and almost the same width, close enough that port matching shouldn't be a problem. The problem seems to be availability, the Trick Flow says not in stock (like many things these days)anyone know who has one in stock or someone selling one used? Thanks

Re: intake manifold
TFS "Mafia" intakes are extremely hard to come by now and usually high in price on the used market. With no new ones available, if I wanted to race this summer I would get a stock Victor with a 4500 top and port match it, or even convert a 4150 Victor to a Dominator flange, as they are even getting hard to come by.

Thanks, I do have a victor 460 4500 flange, however it has been port matched to the much larger CJ port size and spacing. I did have someone locally suggest matching the Victor manifold to the smaller TFS heads using epoxy. I did this years ago on a two stroke motocross bike and it worked, I'm concerned about the epoxy breaking off and going into the engine. can this be done?

Re: intake manifold
I meant get another "stock" Victor and port it to the TFS heads.
As for epoxy and race engines it been around a long time. I believe fuel compatibility is a concern.

You can also get an Edelbrock "Torquer II" intake manifold and use a 2" tall adapter to the 4500 carb. This does work VERY well because the "Torquer II" is pretty low profile.
Short Story: I have a customer with a 501" big block Ford in his Torino street/strip car.
He has a "Torquer II" intake manifold port-matched to his SCJ heads.
He uses a 750 double pumper carb on a 2" tall "Super Sucker" spacer for driving around on the street.
On those weekends when he goes to the drag strip he has a number L-8896, 1050 Dominator carb mounted to a 2" tall adapter that he simply just swaps in place of the street combination.
It is super simple and takes just about a half hour; works great.

Thank you very much, I never thought of using the Torquer II with the spacer.

Mike called me last week and said he has 12 intakes in stock.

I had a TFS Track Heat on a 472" with C9 heads, not sure if they still make it but that engine ran really good.

How much different does it run at the track between the 750 and the 1050? Curious as my 466 has a 750 on a Victor and wondered how much it’s holding me back.

I have no idea about exact numbers ... although, it must run better or he wouldn't go through that extra time to do it.
