me and my '71 offroad racer
This is me:
This is my 429:
This is my toy:
And here we are at our first desert race. A 257 mile desert race in Nevada. Mile 6, we get stuck. Mile 12(Checkpoint one), we bail out of the race due to everything falling apart
Specs on engine:
Sock 429 out of Thunderjet
Edelbrock 750cfm carb
MSD ignition box
5" filter
Tomorrow i am swapping the stock intake for a Performer 460 intake i just picked up for $60... I'm excited to lose 50lbs.
Specs on truck:
1971 FOrd f250
429 i got for free in the end, theres a bit of a story to it
stock c6 with manual valve body, art carr shifter (I have a fully built c6 out of a trophy truck with 50 miles to go in)
Dana 60 rear, welded gears, 3.75 gears, 35" tires
Autofab progressive coils up front, bent i-beams
32 gallon fuel cell
cb radio, all gauges, shifter, racing seats, 5 point harnesses, switches, lights up front
Specs on me:
Just turned 16, just got my license a month ago. Daily driving the '71 racer to school with 429, and welded rearend is *fun/interesting.
I work at a welding shop part time. I am restoring a 1969 f100 frame-off, it is almost to the point of being my new daily diver after 2 years of work.
Any questions

Welcome aboard... Nice truck too... It's awesome to see the young guys/gals jump in with both feet... I agree with Nick, there's lots of experience in your shoes already, but, if you hang around here long enough, there's lots more to learn...

Yeah, I was lucky to have a car to race at Windy Hollow the first time. I certainly didn't have his mad fabrication skills at 16!

Re: me and my '71 offroad racer
Thanks guys! Yeah its nice being able to drive my truck finally that i have been building for years. I got it when i was 12, that's when i started driving it offroad.
I need to get a picture of the 429 with the new performer intake. man it looks like a whole different engine with some aluminum on there! It feels like a whole different engine too, feels way more opened up. We had a bit of a problem when i went to the grocery store last night though. It wouldn't start, it wouldn't start while being jumped, even to the solenoid (Directly to starter). Found the battery cable was loose, tightened it and it fired up and drove home. today we replaced the starter and were hoping it is now fixed. It seems to be. Having your race truck be your daily driver... fun but expensive and stuff always come loose (from dirt trips).
heres a little more on the truck.

Video of our first race, and only race so far. We took it really slow, and as you will see, got passed by a golf cart! Our next race we will be moving much faster. We have recently discovered that the more gas you give it, the less you feel the bumps. Also our suspension will be 100x better next race, and I will be driving! It's going to be fun.

Welcome to the site,ABSOLUTELY Love the truck.I like to see "kids" being involved in motorsports, especially the BBF kinds. Most kids your age can't even check the oil in their rides that, they DIDN'T build.---RED

oh i know! The highschool parking lot is always interesting. Some BEAUTIFUL old cars in the parking lot. However i am 100% sure they were all bought, knowing the kids that drive them. I'm probably one of very few that know how to change their oil let alone build a truck frame up
