30's Fords and Small Block Chevy's
Have been watching some of the Barrett-Jackson auction some on tv.
Ive noticed almost EVERY time you see a 30's or 40's Ford at a show or
whatever you find a 350 or other size small block Chevy under the hood.
At that point of replacing a flathead with a ohv v8, how much more work
would it be to put a 302 or 351 in there? Don't give me the "the Chevy
parts are more common." 302s are a dime a dozen.
There was even a F1 pickup with a 350 under the hood. Is nothing sacred?

The problem is the chevy is cheaper mentality. My bucket has a small block Ford and it fit just fine. Most early street rods have the axle so far forward that oil pump placement shouldn't be a problem.

Re: 30's Fords and Small Block Chevy's
For years, it was accepted that the Chevy's were easier to install in older cars because of it's compactness, and it's almost universal rear sump pan. The small block Fords (221 thru 351) were always hampered by it's length, and front sump oil pan, causing guy's of "lesser intestinal fortitude" to shy away from moving, or hacking up the firewalls, and cross members of their cars. But hey, nobody said "better" (Ford) was "easier" (Chevy)!

A FORD in a FORD - A Chevy in a Chevy - and a Dodge in a Dodge is the way I personally look at it.
If I needed a rear sump pan in my early Ford I'd simply use a "Y" block. You can get just about ANY type parts for those engines if you really want it that way.

It's a easy fall in process with the Chevs . The oil pan have a big thing to do with it plus a lot of guys have no idea on how to build a engine . So for less than $1800 you can have a complete RTR engine . Hard to beat but you will never see me with one in any of my cars !
I will push mine first before I put a damn orange crate in my FORD !

the 5.4 out of a 99 lightning fit dam good in my 40 pickup!it's kinda wide but it's easier than a 460 in a 69 mustang.i had a guy at a car show looked at it cuz he didnt see how i did it.he had one with a 327 sbc in it.he asked me what i would do if i have to work on it and i told him it aint no sbc,it wouldnt need working on.now i'm sure i'll regret it,but i just had to be a smartass.

People have been cross breading the sbc in project cars a bunch since ancient times, I doubt it will change any time soon.
