Re: maybe on here alrady but wondering max bore on an a460 block?
I have yet to find what the max bore is on a FRPP A-460 block. I say that because even on some blown up engines, where you could put your fist through a hole in the cylinder wall, I was amazed at how much wall thickness was still left on engines that were already 4.625" - 4.630", or so. So somewhere bigger than that is my best guess. If you buy a new block from Lem,,,,he'll give you a sonic test sheet on that particular block, so that may help you decide "how big".
As for power with a "non dry sump" engine, I'd say that's up to you. How much do you want to make? As for engines that we've dynoed around here, if I remember correctly, I think one of Kevin's engines was 1071 Hp barefoot and 1371 Hp on spray. That was an FRPP A-96 alum. block however, but both blocks have a dedicated oiling system, so IMO it's up to you and your budget.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Wet sump will work fine IMO
As far as a460 blocks one I have here the sonic test indicates 4.630+ will work if one wanted too.

Lem should have it, I can't recall it off the top of my head, but ford does have a minimum wall thickness spec for them to not be considered blems and provide at least a 4.600 bore. From my understanding some come thru much better than others.

The blocks do not come from FRPP with sonic check sheets...they can be requested after the fact .

Re: maybe on here alrady but wondering max bore on an a460 block?
my question is ...minimum bore?
would be nice to take a rotating assembly and swap from a factory to a a460... possible..probably not huh?

block
I know the a-block would be stronger but if you are only wanting 850 to 900 hp it could be overkill. The a-block is over a hundred pounds heavier than a stock block and a lot more expensive. I know the block is "only 2000." but you still have to bore and hone it so add 300 to 500 plus the last block I received from ford motorsport had to have a sleeve in one of the cylinders because it had a perosity flaw and leaked and they would not exchange the block. I have a stock block that I had machined and installed 4 bolt main caps(300 caps about 450 to machine and line bore)I have a 4.500 crower billet crank and crower billet rods 4.440 bore 557 ci with cj aluminum heads .I have had this combo together for over 10 years now in my 2880 lb door car it has run a best of 8.70s 8.80 in the summer about154 mph I also ran this engine in my dragster weighing 2040 lbs with a 300 shot of nos it runs high 4.50s to low 4.60s all day all year. this engine has over 2000 runs on it and still going strong

An A460 block being "over 100 lbs heavier than a stock block" is incorrect.
weight
Do you know what the average weight difference is? I know in my case my a blocks with caps installed weight 319 lbs and 306 lbs machined and my stock blocks are all in the low 220lbs range my c@c aluminum blocks weight 141 lbs and my AR aluminum blocks slightly more. My a blocks are earlier versions not sure if the newer ones are lighter maybe so. Do you think the A block is needed for 850 to 900 hp?

My A460 block was 290# before any machine work. My Dove A block was 225# after being bored to 4.440".

A-460 unmachined is listed at 290 lbs
A-460 fully machined with 4.600 bore should be in the 270 lb range
Eliminator unmachined is 270 lbs I believe.
