Well that wasnt fun

As some of you know Jan. 27th was my 24th birthday.

Well that night after eating dinner I sat down in my chair and read a
book for a while and then fell asleep. This was around 7:30ish.

Around 9 something I woke up to my heart racing and pounding in my chest.

I got out the BP moniter my dad has and checked my self out. Heart rate
was at 177, and my BP was normal. Still freaked me out tho.

Went to the doc Thursday, said I might have a condition (cant remember
what exactly he called it but I think it started with
pseudoephedrine)and this condition can be aggravated by soda and
certain over the counter meds like Claritin D and sodas. Tho I havent
had any soda drinks in over a week and that one Coke was the first on
in many months. Also about three weeks ago I did have a head cold and
took some Claritin D and then also when I drink the Coke that one time
they both made me feel quite odd. As far as I know I am not diabetic.

So he did a few EKG scans, checked my BP a few times. Said my BP was a
little high. Also put me on a beta blocker. Thursday I go back for
blood work.

I do not drink sodas except rare instances, I do not drink or smoke or do drugs. I will agree that my diet is not the best tho.

Man Tim, I hope everything turns out OK. When your ticker starts playing games on you it scares the shit out of you!!!

The wife ended up in the hospital last year, she was feeling dizzy and went to her doc. Her BP was 282 / 141 . The doc flipped out and sent her directly to emerg. Took them about a week to get it down. The nurses were saying its strange when 240 / 110 is good!!

Tim, Make sure you get to the bottom of your condition, the ole tikker isn't anything to take lightly.

If this happens again feel the back of your neck. if its super hot theres a chance you could have sleep apnia.
I'm not saying your doc is wrong, just sharing what i learned from my own experiences. Hopefully its nothing serious.

Edit: thought of it after, the symptoms go away after you wake up if its apnia.

Kinda had similar symptoms a few years back, come to find out it was something, (seems like it started with a X) in Tea causing it!

Well today I went for my Echocardiogram, I go back in a week for my
results for that and the blood tests they did. So far so good.

Doc has had me on bata blockers for about
two months now.

Heart rate is in the 70s or 80s most times and
my bp is down in the "normal" range.

Pretty odd..............I take Claratin D on a daily basis, never noticed any similar effects with the sodas.....but everyone is different.

Them sodas are bad for you anyway, I cut them out completely in January and just a small change in diet and I've lost 17#s........................nearly to my race weight lol.

I'm sure you know that Pseudoephedrine is the precurser drug for making Meth-amphetamine . Its now a controlled substance, very dangerous. In my current job in Haz-Mat we deal with it decontaminating meth labs.

good job Jon! keep going on the weight loss! I am down to 259 from 310 at the beginning of dec 09.

another 15# or so and I'll be good, 170-175 is a good weight for me.

might even hit the gym again here soon, though these 6.0/6.4's keep ones upper body in rather good shape...........

I am shooting for 200 by the end of the year, I think i will reach my goal early.

Just got back from my pill roller, #198!!! first time I've been under 200 since 1978.

Well went back to the doc today.

Heart is working fine.

I do need to lower my LDL cholesterol and raise my HDL cholesterol tho.
