tourq method's
i was wondering what seems to work best
i myself have used the strech gauge method
and touq wrench
and just recently used the degree method
they all seem to work fine
but i find myself just going back to the touq wrench
last night i was playing around with an old rod and bolts
and i decided to try a few methods
1st i followed the instructions from oliver and since i am useing olives in my current build
i wanted to test it
so i tourqed it to 30flbs and 40 deg
than i set my tourq wrech to 75
it clicked without moving the bolt
so than i set the wrench at 80
it did move the bolt just a hair befor clicking
so in my opion 75 is very close to 30+40deg
and the strech is right were they call for
so i was thing about just setting my touq wrench to 75 and calling it good
i might also check them with the strech gauge
just to make shure all the bolts are streching weret hey need to be
anyone else try this or have differnt ways
or?

Best way to find if the bolt is doing its job is the stretch method.

I guess i'm not as precise as the Pro's. I always use the torque wrench method. Never have had a problem. It's just my way. Not saying it's the best way.

bbf-falcon, I agree the torque wrench is the only way to torque most fasteners, some of the rods will allow you to measure the stretch of the bolt which is very important. Couple of years ago I was going thru my annual bracket engine review and found one rod bolt that stretched .020 instead of .008 and it torqued to spec, would have failed I don't know but my guess was yes. I replaced it.
All fasteners stretch and there are methods to check them, at work we use a ultrasonic bolt gage which will measure the length before install and then after via placing the sensor on the head of the bolt or stud, its badass but also $$$$. In the studies that I have done, cleaning the threads and oiling the threads of fastener (not in the hole) and under the head of the bolt or nut makes a big difference in keeping the torque repeatable.
