Connecting rods 6.700 vs 6.800... aluminum VS steel insight please?
Ive been wondering what is the diffrence in performance and engine life between a 6.700 and 6.800 rod on a 545 stroker?
Is there anything at all?
aluminum rods?
steel rods?
pros and cons of each?
sorry this post is so vauge but Ive just been wondering about these things for awhile now...

Aluminum Rods
I am an expert by no stretch of the imagination.
However we can learn from others mistakes.
I have never heard of anyone having good luck with aluminum rods on the street.
How about Titanium

My (biased) opinion is to use a 6.8 rod as it keeps a little more of the wrist pin in the cylinder at bottom dead center, hey - a .100 is a .100 - it all helps.

Doesnt that also help with side loading in the cylinder as well?
Im just trying to educate myself alittle more so im picking everyones brains here

the Titanium is a little Pricy last time I looked they were in the range of $3000 to $5000 a set seems you can put that money somewhere more useful.....

aluminum has its place, you aint there yet. A good 6.8 h beam with some 2000 series bolts will go a long ways.

The longer rod also makes for a shorter piston and thus less reciprocating mass. A few grams here and there goes a hell of a long way to making a stronger motor!

The differences between using a 6.700 or a 6.800 rod length when it comes to cylinder wall loading will be non existent. The difference in piston weight between one or the other for a given stroke, negligible and if you're running a dish piston said dish can be deeper if needed if the rod is made shorter. Aluminum rods will have excellent bearing life at loadings where steel rods will not. Very high rpm, forced induction etc are applications where it's MUCH better to have an aluminum rod in the engine. While they are sacrificial other areas in the engine will last much better.
Connecting rods are an area of compromise and overkill accomplishes nothing. For instance I like using that Scat I beam rod in a lot of engines because it's less expensive and plenty strong for many applications. Money saved can be spent elsewhere where it'll help performance.

thanks guys just trying to cut through all the propoganda
I probably will never have a need for an aluminum rod much less titanium
