bruno wrote:the other issue with the "w" slicks is that when you put these on a 12" and a 14" rim the contact patch widens from 11.2" to 14"s ...big diff from a True 10.5" slick ...but i know you guys knew that already
Wrong, it will not and cannot. The wide rim will ensure all the tread available makes contact...........it can't stretch the tread out, and if it did there is no way it would make 2.8" diff. Your statement is comical and shows what you really know.
You make out like a "w" is an instant 500 hp advantage................its not. If your car hooks on a small tire the larger tire will slow it down.
If it were a bracket race on a marginal track I would say the W tire would have an advantage, it the case of this class at Windy...................nope.
When I had all the traction issues with the c4 the fastest runs the car made were on a Pheonix 29.5 x 10.5...........no "w".

Re: small tire craze !!!!
i run a 12 inch rim and with the w tire it measured 11.5 and not 11.2 like measured without the rim installed - maybe BRUNO should do some more reasearch before posting crazy CHIT
lmao .... so it did stretch .3"s

I think he might have meant section width..........which will grow............but aint nuthin' to do with contact patch. I'm sure its something he read someplace anyway...............and you can believe anything you read on the internet...........
My 31 10.5 W's are on 12" rims, they measure 10.8" at 11 psi if I remember correct.

Re: small tire craze !!!!
one of the guys that runs in the dds with us runs a 10.5 outlaw class and he says he has more traction issues at the end of the track other than the launch. He is running a big huffer though , but I can see where a bump in the track under a big nitrous shot at 130 - 140 mph could cause the same thing. You guys need to be careful running them small tires and big power.

Thanks, but I need to know the diameter at the treads edge specifically for the MT 29.5/10.5-15. The overall diameter in the center of the tread is not a problem, but on my car right at the outside edge could be and issue I want to avoid.
Re: small tire craze !!!!
Doug, I can measure mine this evening and post it later on. Mine are true 29.5X10.5 on a 10" wheel. You want to kow the roll out at the edge of the tread and the diameter at the edge??

Re: small tire craze !!!!
A 10.5 on a wider rim also stiffens the sidewall for stability down track and limits growth of the tire. Richter is right a big tire takes more power and will be a turd if the car doesnt hit the tires HARD. All of this stock suspension stuff and 10.5 stuff is very cool and impressive, but Im not gonna build another car just to play. My car was built for a big tire and one will always be on it.

Big big power & a tiny tiny tire calls for a Davis traction controll, or at least a Digital 7. Without one or the other, another good investment is extra racing seat covers.......just incase turd stains ruin the old seat cover from the butt pucker effect.
Don't hate on the W's, just think of them as a little extra safety insurance.

I would like to bring the car but I can't say for sure. If I do, I will bring a rope so your car can see what it's like to go fast.
Just kidding Nick. Is Friday test and tune?
