Re: REAR END FLUID
Funny you ask, in the process of trying some stuff myself. For a bracket deal the Motorcraft 75-140 syn has done me well, I get it free so that helps lol.
One thing a guy might consider is putting a heating pad on the housing to warm the fluid up..........not so much an issue on warm days going a lot of rounds but something to consider.

Re: REAR END FLUID
Another question is how much fluid to run and is it worth the $ to REM finsih the gears? I jack mine up @ the track and run in high gear for a while to warm it up.

unless you are looking for every .00000 of et and have the trick bearings and etc to compliment it...........no need to spend the extra $$$$$
just fill mine to the bottom of the fill hole.............2.5 quarts gets it there.

gear oil
Redline oil synthetic "High Shock" 90wt. Use it in my 9" and my toploader. I figure not breaking parts is being consistant.

Re: REAR END FLUID
Seen everything from the killer Redline & Royal Purple stuff down to the cheap Walmart synthetic crap used on 9010 Pro Gears with success. I guess the nickel gears really don't care what brand fluid is used as long as their setup correctly for their application & in a good strong case.
The harder 8620 street gears might be a different story though since wear from 1000's & 1000's of street/highway miles is a different dynamic than short burst impact force wear.

Re: REAR END FLUID
we run street gears in our hot rod and the AMSOIL synthetic fluid works great to help cushion the hard gears. People have told me that synthetic oils come off too easy and doesn't lubricate the gears well so I invited one of them to help me change gears one day. He now runs it in everything he owns.

That's some good stuff. We run that in all of our tractors. It runs much cooler and last a lot longer than others in our apps. It's kind of funny that we use Shaeffer motor oil and hydraulic fluid in our tractors and John Deere trans oil and Amsoil motor oil in our car.
