Naming an old car ???
I've been kicking around some ideas for the finished paint on my 62 Ford. The sure things are that the outer body will be Silver , it will retain the wheel well trim, rocker mouldings, and side body trim. The inside will be 100% red with a white headlinner possibly.
Here are some ideas I have been kicking around.
-- I was thinking of satin blacking the center section of the hood including the X-large boss 9 scoop. Not the whole hood but something similar to the Cobra 70-71 Torino's.
-- If I do the above I will definatley do a POW-MIA tribute on the sides of the boss nine scoop to raise awareness and pay tribute to the fallen heroes that will not be forgotten. I am also thinnking of honoring the local men who died in Vietnam , 50+ , by possibly making the blacked out section represent the wall in Washington DC with thier names on it. I am going to check with the Veitnam Veterns Administration before I tackle this just to make sure it is proper and acceptable.
-- This is the bigg'n , been thinking of naming the car an doing it up like a old race car with lettering and all, but something tasteful.
I really like both the looks of old 60's era racecars and the plain jane clean oustide no lettering about equally. I don't want to copycat a original car but come up with something that fits the era but is fresh also.
Here is the body layout so let me know what you guys come up with.

If you weren't set on keeping the silver I think a black & gold combo like some of the Mustang stuff would look damn nice on that car.

Not every family was as fortunate.

The Super Stockers of that era often had a simple lettering job on the doors or quarters. Nothing elaborate or fancy....names like "Old Reliable" or "the Tin Indian" (I know, I know...wrong brands) were tastefully done. To be period correct, it could be done by an old school sign lettering artist....brush strokes and all. The silver would work well with a general "Armed Forces" theme.

I also like the flat black paint also but maybe with a nice big flag on the top or hood ? Then some nice simple block lettering on the door or quarter panels . Even a Red , White and Blue paint would work .
I think I have seen all at one time or another in the 60's & 70's !

Travis, I think you should just paint it. Keep it clean, simple and understated, your car is a work of art, don't detract from it

Re: Naming an old car ???
I'll take it all in consideration. Open to all ideas. I am going to stop at the VVA on the way home from work Monday and run my idea by them, it may be neat in my idea but definatley don't need it to come across the wrong way.
On a side note, I really liked "The Quiet One" . It was an orange 65 Galaxie, I think Gas Ronda drove it for a while. The Booze Brothers campained the 61 Starliner named "Redliner" and the 62 Ford named "Pale Rider". They were cool. What about "Farm Use" ??

"Farm Use" get a slow moving farm triangle for the rear window....people will think its slow at first, till they see it run then they will remember the 62 for sure.

HOW ABOUT .....
..... Battleship Galaxie. Incorporate paint with a Battleship scheme up front, blend into the Cosmos as you near the rear quarter and then toward the rear darken further and add the wall.
