best plate for 4500 flange Victor
All right NOS guys, I'm making the swap from a 4150 carb on my Stealth intake to a Dommy carb and FMS victor intake. I really don't want to cut the cloverleaf out of the intake if I don't have to, but will if it's what is best. Last year I bought a NOS Cheater kit for the new motor, but plans changed over the winter to the new intake and carb. I am planning on spraying no more than a 200 shot, so I feel the money for a fogger would be wasted on this build. I've looked at a few different plate setups, and want to hear what you guys think!
My top picks are either the #1 Speedtech Diffuser, which gives me basically a 1/2" 4 hole spacer with a nice 360* spray right from the center to keep from running lean on the front and rear cylinders like a typical spray bar setup.
#2 would be the ZEX perimeter plate. Basically an open 1/2" spacer with even distribution around the entire plate, but the cloverleaf from the intake would have to be removed to keep the spary from hitting it and deflecting it's pattern.
#3 would be Wilson Pro-Flo plate simply for the built in safety of the burst plates that pop out in the event of a backfire hopefully somewhat saving my motor. But again, I would need to at least trim 2 of the cloverleaf taps.
Thoughts, opinions, options?
Thanks!

I think you need to go to one of steves classes, I owned and sold a speedtech diffuser plat, not worth the money IMO, The zex is not bad for the hp level you want, and cut the intake is cheap insurance, a big shot has been tested tried and proven true. start with the new tune ups, or call steve and get a victor also very good plate. if you have the bottle and good lines a flowed plate would be my pick. just my .02

I'm not a fan of the SpeedTech or Zex plates, I know people that didn't have much success with them but I'm sure it's like anything else, it takes time to find the best combination. Also I think that if you use any "open type" plate the clover leaf pattern really needs to be cut out completely, all the plate will end up doing is forming a void between the carb and intake where the protrusions are. We've had great success with the Wilson stuff (the blow-offs are a big plus), the Cheater and the Big Stuff plates. I'm sure you would be happy with one of the Edelbrock units from Steve, I don't have any experience using them but know some people that are happy with them.
Good luck

If your truely looking to stay under 200 HP the window is pretty wide open for you on what will work I feel..
As for the clover leaf, I have seen guys leave then in and spray over them, I have seen them cut out, and also even seen then "profiled" and "radiused" on the tops to help with a more smooth flow pattern.
As for the Ford four corner issue, in most cases when you stay in the say 250 and under HP levels, it usually isn't much of an issue. Really as you start to go with 250 on up is what this starts to become more of an issue, regardless of system type.. Thanks, SJ

I have had really good success with the ZEX perimeter plate on my mud truck. Generally sprayed a 200 shot but have sprayed 300 with no issues but my tune was spot on. I would run the zex plate again

I like my zex plate as well but i've only sprayed 150 with it and the only thing i tried before was a cheater plate to compare it to.
