Q16 factoid
check the msds it contains > 50 % tert-butyl_methyl_ether.html

MTBE is manufactured via the chemical reaction of methanol and isobutylene. Methanol is derived from natural gas, and isobutylene is derived from butane obtained from crude oil or natural gas, thus MTBE is a fossil fuel. In the United States, it was produced in very large quantities (more than 200,000 barrels per day in 1999) during its use as a fuel additive. Due to widespread releases of MTBE-containing gasoline from underground storage tanks all over the US, various jurisdictions banned the use of MTBE and production was reduced. MTBE contamination in drinking water aquifers is a serious concern in many states (the most famous cases are Lake Tahoe and Santa Monica). Most American gasoline retailers have ceased using MTBE as an oxygenate and US production has declined. Similarly, lack of growth or even decline of MTBE production has been seen in Western Europe. This is due to the alternative ethanol-derived ether ETBE being given more favorable tax treatment. In other parts of the world, which account for about a half of 2004 production, the use of MTBE will continue and even grow.[1][b]
I knew it had to have methanol in it

Re: Q16 factoid
I doubt the fuel curve Q can be controlled enough with the mech injection, EFI would be a different story................but I see a lot of issues with the Q and the injectors and such...........to many problems to make it worth trying IMO. If you want more kick from the alky just go to the M5 and be done with it lol.

Re: Q16 factoid
I hear it cures gout too
Defree , not at this time more btu's available in the cylinder from methanol , but a good question for you is how many more expanded burned exhaust molecules do we end up with from that bigger boom
Just what kind of issues do you see Fabio ?
You can keep that cotton candy m5 I will mix my own nitro paraffins so I know how much of it I got ,1.5 pill per percent and 2% less bleed off on the high speed

Re: Q16 factoid
We use Q16. We treat our engines like a lot of guys running large amounts of alky. We vacuum the crankcase every pass (we also run ice water through the heads so between the two, engine condensation is a problem) and will flush the system with 93 octane unleaded after each race. We run our car on 93 octane around the shop and loading and unloading.
If you leave the barrel open for any amount of time you can see the water starting to condense on the fuel.

I have had mine on the q with mechanical injection and the throttle response is like a stick of dynamite , but I have not ran it down the track. I don't see any reason a guy could not have his complete mechanical system flowed and find a decent fuel curve.

Re: Q16 factoid
Our test have showed a almost 200 horsepower on our last turbo ride running Q instead of C16. For you guys information, we are not allowed to run alky so it is not an option.

Re: Q16 factoid
Mine ran like a turd with a carb and Q16, alky carb with the plain stuff netted a 400 rpm gain on the converter and 2 tenths in the 1/8..............and yes the throttle response was snappy.
Dunno, prove me wrong................just dont see anyone else trying this combo, its how we learn I rekon.

Oxygenated Fuel
Anyone try the VP113 where they were using C12 or C14. I will be at comp ratio of 13.8-1 with a 557 w/iron CJs and was thinking the VP113 may give me a little more hp. I am going to dyno this engine and was going to try these different fuels. Any insite prior to dyno would be enlightening.
Thanks Mark

You will like the VP113. I just got through dyno testing two different engines with it, and Todd & Gail Lawyer just bought a 55 gal. drum of it from Oakley for our 598 CID engine.

Thanks for the reply Charlie,
I'll definitely give it a try on the dyno.

At charlie's tech seminar jones has an interesting talk on hp with alky and how head design needs to be totaly different than gas, makes me wonder how much you alky guys running conventional bbf heads are leaving on the table?

I don't care if you get one of them or not
I was talking about using my car and engine as a test bed to see which fuel runs the best

True story here. One of my good friends has a dragster with a 532 bbf. Blue Thunder B heads, Scat, JE, Victor 460, the usual stuff. Pretty much a shelf part combination. We have run it with a Ron's Flying Toilet setup and with a carb. The carb is a custom built (for the combo) Pro-Systems 1250 Dominator. Final tune on the carb was done over the phone with Patrick from Pro-Systems. We have done 2 A-B-A tests. In the 1/8 mile the injection is .15-.18 quicker and 3.5 mph faster. Not a really fast car, but won with both.
It runs ~4.89-90 @ 140 injected on alky and 5.05-5.07 @ 136.5 on carbed gas.
Jut to show he is not biased towards the alky, the same guy also has a door car. Tube chassis Maverick. 438 SBF, C302B heads. He runs another Pro Systems carb on it. We have tried an alky carb, but not injection. It ran the same on carbed gas and alky so he stayed with gas.
