Baseline tune question Empty Re: Baseline tune question

Steve, you seem to be the guy to ask this question to, but anyone is welcome to give me feedback. When i just run 557ci 14.5:1 engine i gap my AR3933 plug at .040 and no problems at 32degree timing. If i want to hit a 150-200 shot plate what gap would be good and what timing. Thanks, Bob

557ci, A460 ported heads/matching intake with 235/188 valves, 14.5comp. 820lift comp cam solid roller, 1150 wilson carberator worked dominator out of Memphis, BTE powerglide with NOS converter set for around 250 shot and use 116 octaine VP fuel when I can get it or 116 octaine renigade fuel. car wt. is around 3200+ with me. all components are at the highest standard forged. guess that's basically it.

I have not run this set-up yet, just had open heart surgery a month ago, got a driver for it though till I get better. hoping to run mid 5's with this set-up. ran 5.62 last season without head work and a smaller cam/carb/wrong rockers and push rods. Blew the head gaskets out on that run, now I have the cosmetic ones Cevans suggested.

Thanks bruno, getting with wifeeee now to see what she can do for vacation time that weekend. I have been told for some years now that if I want a good tune up it is best to have the guys see what i have, hear it and see it run. I was told at the bash I can get all the help I can want. cool. Bob

Hey Bob,
Sorry for the slow reply, but here's my thoughts..

If it were mine and with 14.5 to 1 and wanting to spray it I would go to a 3932 plug at about .025 to .030 gap.

You mentioned that last year you blew the head gasket out ??? Shocked Have you track tested your base timing to make sure it is in the best place it can be as well as the safest place for your set up ?? Hearing this alone makes we very cautious on your timing numbers..

As far as your fuel goes, I would pick one and stay with it. The couple of guys I have helped that ran Renagade didn't run it for long. Seemed we needed to run quite a bit more fuel pressure to make things happy. On a BBF with high compression I would sure take a look at VP NO2 fuel.

As for the 150-200 HP plate system ?? I'm not sure who's system you have or what size nitrous and fuel jets your calling 150-200 ??? The proper N/F ratio has a lot to do with the timing you'll need to retard as well as the results you'll get out of the set up.. We blueprint, flow and properly jet map a lot of plate systems and the results are all over the place depending on the style of plate, solenoids used, and the line sizes. Bruno found this out as his main restrictions weren't even his jets.. Wink

Hope this helps.. Steve
