Connecting Rod Longevity
How long do connecting rods last in terms of longevity? I have a set of Eagle 6.8 Rods that I purchased back in 2000 sitting on the shelf now. They have been magnafluxed and reworked and theoretically should be good but when do you say enough is enough and scrap them?
These rods were in an old Drag engine I had and also drove on the street for awhile and saw 6500 rpm runs.
Thanks Tore

Re: Connecting Rod Longevity
Steel rods in theory are good forever, as long as your not exceeding the designed fatige strength.

What determines fatigue strength? And how is that measured?

Re: Connecting Rod Longevity
If the rods check out and are used within their intended means then they should last almost as long as you do. The metal fatigue of steel is extremely low and only at the very beginning of its usage, after which the fatigue rate/curve damn-near flattens out altogether and holds steady.Tore wrote:How long do connecting rods last in terms of longevity?
