Tractors ?
Any one have any experiance with Mahindra tractors? I'm a John Deere guy myself but the mahindras are looking attractive. I need a tractor that has some weight to it, strong bucket and pull a disk or tiller.

Re: Tractors ?
IMO I'd stay with the JD. You could find something used and sell it for almost what you paid!
We had one of the awesome 4020's when I was growing up. Dad bought it used for 10K and sold it 15 years and many many hours later for 12K.

Jones, how much use are you looking at? How many hours per year are you figuring on using one for?
You looking at New or Used?

Re: Tractors ?
Father in-law and I would like to go in togather on one (that just means I pay for it and he uses it when he wants) He has been wanting one for years and my wife wants to see about getting us one he can use. No telling what he will find to get into!! (Retired) Mainly pond levy, landscape, tilling.
Looking at a compact 30-40hp, front end loader, belly mower, 4wd. We have larger tractors avaliable but everytime we use them something is broke or they are just too large and do more damage than you started with.
Only way I can afford one is to buy new and get cheap finacing.

Well then, back to JD. The only import tractor I would like to own would be a JCB. I don't like the Kabotas and New Holand seems to be getting weeker and weeker. MF doesn't make anything good any more and don't really know about Case.

Re: Tractors ?
I have a 2001 New Holland TN75 I bought new. In 2001, we looked at MF, Case, JD, and NH. The Case and MF were about equal and looked like the tractors of old. The JD and NH were up to date and the same price ($28,000). We chose the NH over the JD because in had more features and lifted waaaay more. I don't know anything about today's NH or JD. My ex-boss bought a JD 40hp tractor for around $14,000 and I like it pretty good. Another friend bought a Kabota and it has been in the shop several times. My NH has never been in the shop.

Case is good property. Up here, you either go Deere or Case, just a color preference.

Same thing around here. Kinda like Chevy and Ford!! The guys that own Case/IH wouldn't own anything else, same for the Deere people......
One thing I can say, in my years trucking I have seen waaaay more trucks loaded with JD stuff than Case, NH, or MF.
BTW I hope we're all talking about Massey Ferguson when we say "MF"

Re: Tractors ?
Best tractor would be a Fendt... but the smaller models are unfortunally not avialible in your country.
Don't buy anything with a Perkins engine in it because they are already leaking when new

Re: Tractors ?
I'd agree with that suggestion Bruno, Used is the only way to go for a limited private use piece of equipment, New is to damn expensive. Especialy with the ecomony the way it is, seem alot of people are selling of excess stuff right.
I went thru the same process when I had my farm in Pennsylvania, couldn't justify the expense of new equipment to run it 40-60 hours per year.

Re: Tractors ?
My father in-law has been combing through the southern trader magazines. Yet I just don't have the pocket change to splash down $6,000 in cold hard cash for a tractor, if I did my truck would be finished. Maybe I can find a new/used unit that they will still finance.

Re: Tractors ?
Jones, if you can't afford a used one at 20% the price of a new one, then you can't afford the new one.
Ask yourself is this a want or a need.............. If you already have a bunch of equipment why not make due or get rid of one to get a smaller one and not have a payment or owe any body?????
Just trying to help you not get in a bind.........

Ya those suckers are exspensive and this definetly is not a needed item! I think I have more of a need for a new trailer than one of these.

Re: Tractors ?
Another option is renting. Most dealers have rental units and there are lots of rental places around too! It might be a much cheaper deal if you only use it a few times a year. You can also try different brands and see what you like. It is also a agood way to see how they hold up, the rentals get used pretty hard!!

Re: Tractors ?
Jones, that is the same JD tractor my boss has. He really likes it. I may buy a smaller one someday as my TN75 is just too big for some stuff.
