richter69. 6.0 problem???
lacks power and is missing. harder to start when cold.even above 0 degrees. works properly when it gets over 3000 rpm.
i stopped to get fuel at the shell and when i started it, it stalled and i had to restart it. fist time it did this, and i think it burled a little more than it should have too. doesnt seem to be any harder on fuel. what do you think? egr or injector or something. i was gonna put some kind of cleaner thru it.but dont want to do anymore harm to it. i was told by alot of heavy equipment mechanics to use good old fashioned trannyfluid. i use it in one of my older log trucks that has a finicky injector and it does help that engine. that is also an electronic engine. 1999 550 cat. taking it in for a new injector in may.
and the truck is a 2004 f-350 quad cab dually. had tons of balls till this happened.does have a small exhaust leak also.
havent scanned it yet, hopefully later this week. i remeber in the older fords you could turn the key on and off 3 times and then leave it turned on and it would flash the coldes, can you still do something like this or does it have to be scanned. thanks, kyle

Its hard to say without getting codes etc, you'll have to get them read, the key thing wont work lol.
dont put any additives in the oil or fuel.

They make some pretty big claims but it mostly seems to be snake oil.

Internal oil leaks, bad computer / sensors, bad injectors, bad pump, dirty electrical connections, bad turbo...... I just went thru this with my 2006, first thing you need to do is get it scanned by a competent diesel mechanic, no yahoos........

my buddy's father swears by seafoam. i have used it in gas engines. not much luck. but the fuel system on this truck is too expensive to mess with. thanksrichter69 wrote:Its hard to say without getting codes etc, you'll have to get them read, the key thing wont work lol.

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
I have been using Power services Diesel Supliment for the whole life of my Truck, seems to run better with than without it... and has an Injector cleaner in it........ take 8 oz per tank........ I olso run a Alt, Boost and Pyrometer on my Truck to keep Tabs on them.....also went to 4 " exhaust to help with exhaust flow and it helps keep exhaust temp down....... I have a 6 position Chip in my 2003 but don't use it very much if at all......

I definetly wouldn't use any kind of motor oil additive, stick with Synthetic oil only, these PS's are very finiky about oil IMO.
I'm on the fence about fuel additives. The better soludion to keep injectors and turbos clean is to avoid short trips and use it like a truck......

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
I think Dave's right. I've used synthetic oil in mine since I bought it. Rotella T in the blue jug is the cheapest (and easiest to find) around here. About a year ago, I was GIVEN 4 jugs of Delo 400 oil. I figured it might be OK for a cheap oil change. Did the change and my truck limped like a three-legged dog. I dumped that crap back out....lesson learned.
He's also right about the short trips. If you ain't gonna let it run long enough and hard enough to get it good and hot, don't start it.

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
My 07 6.0 seemed to love the Power Service fuel additive, better fuel mileage and engine ran quiter! Ran Delo 400 in my 02 7.3 and Power Service fuel additive.
Some times I would sneak in a tank of High Sulfer #2 in the 07 and I could swear I could hear it telling me that it loved me! Ran B20 most of the time though.

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
should have neen a little more clear...no oil additives, fuel is ok as long as its the Ford, Stanadyne, powerservie etc.
Never used syn oil in one, main thing is keep it changed.
Use Ford filters, have more issues with ill fitting aftermarket units than you could imagine.

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
the short trips deal could definately be a factor here, i start it in the morning and drive about 800 ft to the garage and shut it off, i better get a gasser for the town driving.dfree383 wrote:I definetly wouldn't use any kind of motor oil additive, stick with Synthetic oil only, these PS's are very finiky about oil IMO.

misfire cylinder no 2,
low injector circuit voltage
cant remember the code no
i called the dyno guy at toromont in toronto cause he is a ford guy and all he owns is diesels and he told me to put half a quart of TF in it and try it out.said it wont do any harm to try. said it may buy some time or it may not work at all. tried it and the injector started working again. for how long i dont know.but the truck is definately running better. i will go back to mobil synthetic again. any recomendations on what grade to use. i had 0-40 in it this winter and it really seemed to like it. cold starts at -20 c.thanks for the help guys. i will post if the injector sticks again.probably will but i hope not
forgot to post that you could here a tap on the right side of the engine(pass side). mechanic figures that was the stuck injector. thanks again, kyle

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
I use Mobil 1 TDT 5w/40 I use to change it every 5 to 7000 miles and it still looked new, so I went to 10,000 between changes. again it still looked new as if I just poured it in, so now it gets 15,000 between changes and it has a slight darkish tint and uses 1 quart or less per oil change..... just rolled it over 200,000 and runs like a champ...... but @ $125 per oil change

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
i will get the mobil 5-40 synthtic and some power services diesel supplement. and get better filters. i got the last two filters from napa.mine doesnt have the round spring in it,it has the flattened step spring in it.takes a different cartrage than the newer ones.

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
so the truck is still a dog when cold, but is alot better once it warms up but looks like it will have to go in. think i should try putting synthetic in it first or too little too late. i hate to have this trouble so fast cause i dont wanna hear the "i told you so" from everybody.
thanks for the answers guys. and a late happy easter to everyone.

Re: richter69. 6.0 problem???
Sounds like dirty sticky injectors, not much you can do besides replace them. The FICM_MPWR needs to be checked (need a scan tool that will run a datalogger)
The exhaust leak if its an uppipe can aggrevate the situation.............pretty bad depending.
Sticky Egr valve can also do it and not always set a code.
