building a 80 coupe stang, at this time im unsure on what to do, either a 545 with ported doves or a 472 with alum scj heads, with a roller around 680 lift...victor intake, 11-1 compression..3.55 gears 4000 converter etc..what kind of et am i looking at ? wanting to run at least 10.70's , but i only have enough $$$ to either buy a stroker kit or buy some alum scj heads,, i do have h-beam rods for a 460, im not scared of some rpm, with the 472...would love to have both but ...bla..bla..bla...

Go with the heads, you'll hit your goals no problem with the 472 and SCJ's. Why waste time on a set of factory iron, with the SCJ's priced so good right now.

add the rotating assemble later when the motor needs freshened.

thats why i was thinking about the alum scj heads , cant beat that head for the $$$, looking like it will be a 472, with h-beam rods 11-1 , srp pistons, victor intake , 1050 dommie, 3.55 gears , 4k stall, looking at roller cams 680 lift area 3000-7000 rpm range maybe a tad bigger

Little more gear and compression if it's a race car. FT's with 0 deck will get you about 11.5-11.7

I am building a mustang along the same lines. I went with the heads first and the stroker will come later.
They are righ about the super deals avaliable on the SCJ's, get with Lem.

Keep us posted on your build.

Heads are the heart of your engine. Cubic inches just move the rpm range up or down. Go with the heads IMO.
