572 or 605?
i'm looken to go a little bigger and i know bigger is better but i have a nice bryant 4.250 crank i bought new and have in my engine now.i can go with a idt block and punch it to 4.625,use my crank & rod's=572.or buy another $$$$$ crank & rods 4.500 =605.how much would i be missen out on by going with the 572?let's say the heads would support the 605 very well also, what kinda difference in the peak hp/tq would it have and at what rpm?

Re: 572 or 605?
would the 572 make as much power as a 605 at more rpm?

Re: 572 or 605?
Lets' just say it will make 1.65 HP/Cubic Inch.
572 X 1.65= 943.8
605 X 1.65= 998.25
572 X 1.65= 943.8
605 X 1.65= 998.25

question would be if 55hp is worth the $ of another crank.

I'd use what you got in hand. If it don't make enough power then just spray the damn thing like Nick would ...........

Re: 572 or 605?
Depends on the cyl. heads......which are? A 572" can make 1,000 + hp....one carb. and gas.

On a 4.6250" bore, they will work real well. I'd be disappointed if they didn't make way over 1100 horsepower, I figured they would go 1175 in a 605" application. I'm sure Charlie could tell you better than I.

Depends on cam and induction but 7000-8000 isn't out of line.

Re: 572 or 605?
So would we all...like something better. How good are the A460 units and which castings? There are better A460 deals in most cases . You said you "can" go the elim. block for the 4.625" bore.........what do you have now?cool40 wrote:i have a460's but i'd like something better.Lem Evans wrote:Depends on the cyl. heads......which are? Let's put some context to this....a 4.5" crank will be better than a 4.25"...depending on bore...what bore do you have now? What are the hp goals and budget? .......Then there can be answers.
Re: 572 or 605?
i'll soon find out how "good" my a460's are when i get them off.they're the motorsport's from way back in the 80's,i did the port work, everhow it may be,the block i have is a .080 dove.i plan to have a idt block and wanted to know how much better a 605 would be than a 572.i'd like all the hp i can get and what's a budget?Lem Evans wrote:So would we all...like something better. Re: 572 or 605?
Bigger engine w/o better heads/manifold.carb/cam may not be very productive.
You "plan" to have big $ block. I'd "plan" to to have better stuff......1st thing is.....find out how good the stuff you have is. I.M.O.

Re: 572 or 605?
i'll see what the a460's are when i get them off cuz like you said it's good to know.what do you think about the idt 903a plus cnc'd with 2.5/1.82......on a 572? thanksLem Evans wrote:Bigger engine w/o better heads/manifold.carb/cam may not be very productive.

I think that is a very Large request! You are going to exceed the 4" rule, and make your valves kiss
