Anyone got a black XL Impact jacket and pants that they are going to do away with? If so, let me know!

I sure wouldn't want to be in a fire in a car with a firesuit or gloves boots that were sewn together without fireproof thread

They will loose every lawsuit presented to them. Can you imagine the number of racers that have useless suits, shoes, neck collars, gloves, me included. Sad

I'm with Frank. Hard to believe Bill Simpson would stoop that low. Sad deal for everyone who owns the product.

Bill Simpson has nothing to do with Simpson Racing Products. He sold out, that's why he started Impact, as I understand it.

Just what kinda person would do something like that knowing one of us could be badly burned if a fire was to happen inside the car.Sounds like to me some stern legal action needs to be taken out against Impact and all that was involved....Hopefully all of our BBF brothers will read these post and buy new suits and shoes.I know this can be costly..but saftey should always be first in our minds, because we all like to go fast.Like Frank said,I don't want to be in something not knowing if it is fire proof or not!!!!!!!

It should be pointed out that racing fire suits are not actually "fire proof", but are instead flame resistant/retardant. This means that they will eventually fail if exposed to a constant source of fire for a longer period of time than what the material is designed/rated for.

That means the suites won't actually save you from getting burned in the fire if you just sit there, or take way too long getting out of the car. But being flame retardant they will buy you some very important additional time to get out of the fire before eventually getting burned. It's not much extra time, but you might need every additional second the suite buys you.

Your Still Getting Burned......... Its just a matter of how bad and how fast......

Exactly.

So even with the best made fire suite your best bet is to get out of a burning car fast as if ........well.......as if your ass was on fire. And you better hope the track you race at has smart personal & proper safety equipment on hand just in case you can't get out of the car on your own.

Yes.....hence the reason for different SFI specs.....from single layer-triple layer.........all relative to actual burn time

Lots of folks dont realize that fact of them not being fire proof. I never could understand why in some classes that a -1 jacket was required but not the pants, gloves or shoes. Generally the fire would be on your feet and legs in a race accident before it got to your torso, and I sure want my feet to be in shape to run like hell.

I got burned once pretty bad on a car fire, and I said then, "If I ever get burned again in a car fire, it will not be from trying to put it out, it will be from fanning it!"
