YEAAL TERRA ROCKER - its rocker arm time! Empty its rocker arm time!

Post  bb429power May 6th 2010, 9:55 pm

Well I've got some money right now and I know I need rockers. I was going to go with the roller tips from comp cams but I don't like the idea of it not being a full roller. But I'm running a flat tappet cam so you see the irony there. I was wondering what brand I should get. I was thinking the crane cams, scorpions, or the harland sharps. I could get some from my builder for $300 and I'm not sure which ones yet, but If I can get good ones for cheaper that would be nice. What do you guys think?

I am a big fan of Harland Sharps. There is not a better stud rocker out there for the money. Basketball

The HS rockers are a fine product, but the geometry requires a real short pushrod.

I have a set of the old Lunati's, I think they are the same as the Crane Gold, Trick Flow etc.

What heads are we talkin' about here...?
Be sure to use a rocker arm which is designed with FORD geometry and not a re-boxed Chevy design; there are several of either.

I am using the Crower stainless steel rockers in my motor. They aren't cheap, but in the words of Randy Malik, I will be able to will them to my grandkids. They are also available in some different ratios as well. Very Happy

They are 1971 429 D0VE-C heads, What is the stud size that I should be looking for? I'll have to see about the pushrods, will I need adjustable ones or expensive ones that will take forever to track down?

Okay, so H.S is good. They were my first choice before I even got into this. But my engine builder has a set of ford racing full rollers for $300 brand new. So which is a better deal?

$300 even is an extra super price on a set of FRPP A460 [Crane] rockers.

These the one's? Why did you say [crane]? Does crane make them?
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=633

It says for 1973 or later cylinder heads, mine are 1971 cylinder heads. But then it says its for a 429/460 under that, so I'm in the clear? I would be suprised if I couldn't use them.

$300 is the most I'll spend, I'm not even sure about spending that much though. But if it were a race engine I'd look into the Crower's.

Well someone said something along the lines of "look out for the FMS stuff, some is cast in china and is crap". so I checked it out and I never saw anything that said made in the U.S.A. On harland sharps website they say it a bunch. I think ALL products should be more like the upper left paragraph. Plus I have heard good things about them, they seem to know what they are doing. I'm going to go with Harland Sharp rockers.

Well my dad talked to my builder today. He said that Harland Sharp is owned by a different company now. (remember, this is what my dad said, the builder said. He can mix up the story sometimes). Anyways, apparently he's been able to wheel and deal lately and said that he could get me a set of comp cams gold roller rockers for less than the H.S's. Well only Crane cams sells gold rocker so that's probably what he meant. But I don't know if my builder was saying he could get them for a little cheaper than off the shelf, or a little cheaper than the H.S's. I've seen pictures of comp cams rollers break and I don't want to get those at all, not worth the risk. These are probably the one's. I hate coming on here and having to re arrange the story again after our builder tells us something new. I still kind of want the Harland's though, but if I can get better one's for less that's cool. But aren't crane cams stuff made in Austrailia?

Harland sharp has a good lifetime warranty too.

comp does make gold rockers,my new jegs mag has them listed as "ultra gold". they're about 25$ higher than harland sharp's on the same page.

I hate to admit it, but I have two friends running a set of 1.73 comp rocker arms on some pretty mild 460's for close to a year with no problems. They were cheap about $110. They may last a long time or break tomorrow I don't know. I just hate to use any pro junk crap I think that word belongs on a chevy only and is made for a chevy.

Well my dad ordered up the Harland Sharp rockers. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy I like those the most and they seem to be good. If anything happens the warranty is lifetime and only voided by machining them. Cranes warranty is one year and voided by using them for racing. Suspect Whats the point then?
