IHRA Chassis Certs?
Is anyone coming to the BBF Bash in need of an IHRA
chassis cert? I'm an IHRA Division 5 Tech, Safety,
and SFI Chassis inspector and will be racing at the
BBF Bash this weekend. I know Windy Hallow is
NHRA, but thought maybe I could help anybody
out needing and IHRA cert while I'm in your neck
of the woods.

I'm in 100%!. My car has a current IHRA sticker, but it expires this fall. I'll go ahead and renew it while I have the chance.
Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
Many thanks Curt! Many of us at IHRA are or were racers.
So we really do understand sportsman.....
Our IHRA chassis cert prices are still the same price and didnt
double last year like NHRA. A Sportsman tag, 7.50 and slower
is still $75 and good for 3 years. A Pro tag, 7.50 and quicker is
still $100 and good for 2 years. If anyone wants a cert please
stop by my trailer over the weekend. Cash or checks to IHRA.

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
Unless they changed.......NHRA cert will work at an IHRA track, but not the other direction..........I could be wrong but thats how it used to be.

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
Pretty sure he is right, I know a car that is IHRA certified 7.50 will not necessarily certify 7.50 NHRA, and NHRA will not recognize a IHRA certification. IHRA however will recognize a NHRA certification. Like was said, thats how it was a year or so ago.richter69 wrote:Unless they changed.......NHRA cert will work at an IHRA track, but not the other direction..........I could be wrong but thats how it used to be.

If you're not racing for a wally or your picture in the ND, I dont think anyone will refuse your entry fee.

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
There are tracks in this area that will not let you run faster than 10.00 if you are not certified or do not have a NHRA competition license, or if you are not legal in any other way and they dont care how much you are going to pay them. We can not get away with no cert or a expired one.Curt wrote:richter69 wrote:Unless they changed.......NHRA cert will work at an IHRA track, but not the other direction..........I could be wrong but thats how it used to be.

Yeah, thats just not the case around here. You can run pretty much anywhere you want as long as you're not wearing shorts.

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
When I'm working IHRA races we dont accept NHRA
chassis certs. You need an IHRA cert to race. There
were some exceptions that were advertised as
special offers at ProAm races a few years ago.
SFI specs for chassis' are from the SFI Foundation
and not IHRA or NHRA, so the specs are the same.
Its just the tags, ETs, fees, and expirations that
differ. Also IHRA doesnt require a cert until 9.00.
while NHRA requires certs at 9.99 (1/4).
Just FYI

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
There are no SFI certs for 8.50 and slower.
Just the full roll cage stuff in the rule books.
8.49 and quicker have SFI cert specs broken
down into vehicle types, weights, and ETs.
Its all listed on the SFI website:

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
This is good info to have, however we worked with a IHRA car that was currently l certified to 6.50 2 years ago. When we went to NHRA cert. it they would not certify it to 6.50 because there were bars that were not in the proper location for the NHRA specs. He would not certify it until the bars were welded in to his approval. If the specs are the same it sounds like he might of had us go to alot of time and expense for nothing, or the IHRA inspector that had certified it before missed it.AlkyPinto wrote:When I'm working IHRA races we dont accept NHRA

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
A few years ago there was a major change in both
sanctions when they required SFI certs for anything
below 8.50. A lot of people got caught up in this
when their tags expired. They had previously been
certified faster then 8.50 but didnt have all the bars
the SFI spec require.s So they either had to add them
of drop down to 8.50+. I tech'd a lot of cars back then
that needed the kidney bar and all the floor bars at the
firewall.
Inpectors arent perfect. I've checked a lot of
cars with current NHRA tags that are still missing
bars. I remember one car was missing SEVEN bars!

Re: IHRA Chassis Certs?
I just want my truck to be the safest it can be but still be able to fit me in it!
I ordered the SFI 25.5 rule book, but I don't see how the truck can get under 3,600lbs
