Well is there a way to install a trans brake without buying a new valve body? Like this one, it doesn't look like its even hooked up to anything so couldn't I just hook up a solenoid and make a bracket for it?

I know what I'm saying probably sounds like the stupidest thing you have ever heard, but I just want to know how/if I could put a transbrake on my c6 without buying a new valve body. By the way, I was wondering if you could have different gear ratio's put in to a c6. Mine had ratio's written on the side (I know it was rebuilt before) but I cant remember what they were. Just wondering if the other guy had swapped the original gears out with different one's for towing.

Nope sorry it aint that simple. You should do a search on Frank Merkl. He builds his own C6 transbrakes using stock valve bodies as a starting point. There is a lot of stuff out there that doesnt work. Not sure about the TCI one you link to but most of the comercially available units are flaky at best from what I have heard.

Yes there are lower gear sets available for the C6. 2.75 I think.

Thanks a lot. I figured I wouldn't be able to, but I know how racers are. If they can find a way to improve, they will and I wouldn't be suprised if someone had figured out how to (Frank Merkel). It couldn't hurt to ask, I'll PM Frank. Thanks.

Yeah, AFAIK the E4OD/4R100 gearsets are the lower ones that are interchangeable w/the C6. As was said, Frank is the man for modifying stock VBs to 'brake use. I grabbed one up purely on reputation... necessity remains to be seen.. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

when you say "low" you mean low speed like a transfer case 4l right? I get the numerical value and speed mixed up. low like 5.10 is for lower speeds, that's what your talking about right? Just double checking. thanks.

Yes. Keep in mind, if you're planning on making BBF Big Power Very Happy those ratios can be a hindrance on traction... Hence the big dogs going to Powerglides. I'm no where near that yet, so I'll be playing with Frank's toys for now.. Very Happy

So at 500+hp and 600+ft-lbs I might want to switch to a higher gear? Keep in mind, this is supposed to be a super high power street machine/medium strip machine. Or, being able to get it all out on the street without sacrificing strip ability. It will have under 12" overall width tires and 4.09 gears, I want a big diameter tire though to contrast the 4.09 gears. This motor wont see anything over 5750 and the shifts will be at 5500.

I'll venture a guess at staying with a standard C6.. And I believe the crossover point to PG to be 750-800HP-ish. But keep in mind the weight that HP is pushing is a big factor... I think Fabio can help you out on advice here.. Wink

Well I'm not switching the trans if I don't have to. If it were a full on drag car then it would be different. Its just a matter of which gear set for a C6 to have in it. Oh, and I never knew E4OD gears would go in a C6.

Thanks for all the help. Waiting until Fabio chimes in with those A++ know it all racer skillz. Very Happy And I only race 1/4 mile.
