My daughter graduates today at 11am. I am a proud poppa and a sad one at the same time. She is graduating at 16...she has more than enough credits as a junior...the sad part is that she is going to live with her mother....she feels that she has to help her out with bills and shit! I got custody (not legal as far as the courts go) of her a little over 2 years ago (her mother and her was always fighting...her mother blamed my daughter, for her divorce to her husband) BITCH! my family say's not to let her go....I do not want her to hate me if I do not let her. plus I do not want to start paying support again...If I have to, I will counter sue her mother for 2 years of back support to me. The child support office knows that she lives with me and had stopped my payments to IT!.....OKAY...happy note.....she is graduating! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Yes it sounds bitter sweet. But congrats on the graduation. 16 is a very young age to graduate at. I'm sure you've already spoke with her on the mom situation. Make sure she understands that it's her decision (and you support that she made the decision even though you're not happy about it) and that her life will be full of decisions that she'll have to live with. Good luck Wink and again "congrats to the Grad" Exclamation cheers

Sounds like you have a very smart little girl there...congrats!!

I went through a similar deal with my ex. First she had custody of both kids, then my son couldn't handle her drinking and moved in with us. Then he dropped out of school and got a job and moved out. Then my daughter moved in with us 'cause she couldn't handle her drinking either. The ex ended up drinking herself into the ground.

Sometimes parents can put some big guilt trips on their kids and make them feel responsible for taking care of them. That is crap, the parent is supposed to care for the kid, not the other way around!! My ex put all sorts of guilt on both kids and they had quite a hard time when she died.

Good luck, I hope she chooses to stay with you, it sounds like she has a bright future.

The last sentence in Bill's post says a lot for someone that age. Let her choose, make her aware of consequences of her choices, then let her make them. A valuable learning phase that will go on the rest of her life. Let her know and make her understand that it is not your choice, but you will be there for her for what ever comes about. She must learn and form her own opinions of what this "person" is, no one can tell her and make her understand, I know, been there when I was young.

Thanks guy's! She has made her choice. She left with her mom after graduation. I believe her mom did put the guilt trip on her! She knows the door will be always open for her! The circumstances between her and her mom when she was in the 9th grade, did reflect on her GPA. She was an honors and AP student since the 7th grade. She had 2 D's while at her moms. She had all A's & B's here. The GPA was only a 2.23. Which sucks for college entrance. She needs to go to a community college for a year. She applied to no less than 20 scholarships/grants etc...and received nothing. She wants to be a pediatric nurse. I wish her all the best!
Thanks again guys for the congrats...Jason
