Re: cleaning block
You can't get it too clean, with that said....Here is how I wash mine...
Blow it off with air,Clean with hot soapy water and bottle brushes, clean with pressure washer, clean with hot soapy water again then blow dry with air. After everything is dry I wipe down with a light coat of oil to prevent rust.

Also, make sure ALL the oil gallery plugs are out so you can run a brush ALL THE WAY thru each one.

Re: cleaning block
Most of the time I will stand the block on end and use solvent and a brush in the oil galleries. I have some industrial cleaner that is water soluable that I inject with the power washer and steam clean until satisfied that it is spotless. Oil the shiny parts to stop rust until time to assemble.

I'd not only oil the shiney surface's but the as cast surface's also... Get some oil in and on any surface you can.... I hate Rust...even a small amount of stuff that'll rub off with your finger !!

Re: cleaning block
When you take out the lifter gallery plugs and run your brush ALL THE WAY THRU take some brake cleaner and spray the brush out before dragging the dirt back thru the gallery. Order you a complete brush cleaning kit from Jeg's , Summit or your friendly auto parts store. . And make sure to look at the ends of the plugs and install them back the correct way. Every hole that you see ,try to clean it. I use lots of Brake cleaner when cleaning mine.
