D3 compression ratio
I have a set of D3 heads available I could use for a build, is it possible to get the cr up to about 14:1 with them or would I be better off selling them and buying small chamber heads?

Re: D3 compression ratio
What the CID? Flat tops in a 466 usually get about 9.25-9.5:1 with D3's

Re: D3 compression ratio
Do you have an idea of what the chamber size is or will be after a valve job?

Re: D3 compression ratio
I had 13.5-1 with 95 cc heads, and dome pistons.

Re: D3 compression ratio
ci would be .060 maybe .080 over, stock 460 crank, no idea what the chamber size will be. Just wondering if it is practical to build a high compression engine with the D3 heads.

Re: D3 compression ratio
You need custom Pistons with D3's to get 14:1, Going to need about a +24-30 cc piston.

Re: D3 compression ratio
would you guys recommend using custom dome pistons, or sell the D3 heads and buy dove heads?

Re: D3 compression ratio
I would think that you would be better off just upgrading to a better head with a smaller chamber. The ford racing SCJ head would be a good head for you to check out. small chambers, good flow, updated valve angles and better chamber design. or you could get the P-51's which are very strong heads. JMO.

I know these are good heads, but this is a budget build for a stock class puller that requires oem iron headsMaddmattmustangs wrote:I would think that you would be better off just upgrading to a better head with a smaller chamber. Re: D3 compression ratio
It's going to be a lot easier to get there with the DOVE's, but it'll still take a set of dome pistons. DOVE heads are still relatively easy to come by and affordable.

Re: D3 compression ratio
I dont know what you have done to the heads, or your budget. if the heads are nicely ported, and money is tight, just run em with a 10cc dome. imho

Re: D3 compression ratio
a 10cc dome isnt going to get 14:1 with a D3 Head.

Re: D3 compression ratio
nope but gets him ready for a smaller chamber head in the future.
I dont know the ins and outs of the build but I wouldnt let it make it or break it as far as getting out there. I personally would rather be out there getting last place than watching from the stands. One of my friends ran D3 headed flat top piston 460 for 5 years and seldom if at all seemed to get last place...didnt win either but at least he was out there...fwiw.

Re: D3 compression ratio
true, but if your buying pistons, get what you need.

Re: D3 compression ratio
I'd start atleast with a set of C8's or C9ve.
I owned a set of super nice D3's and after being decked they still CC 94. I believe they are in the 100cc range from the factory. You will just be that much ahead of the curve if you start out with a non emmission cylinder head and smaller chambers.
