if you dont do it and something goes wrong, you will only kick yourself! i did mine just for piece of mind and i owuld have worried about it till i took it apart to get it done!
Re: To balance or not
I'm extremely happy I did mine. Even in a fairly mild 466, it's worth the piece of mind knowing I can spin this thing safely to the 7000rpm goal I had intended with no issues. If you feel like going a little farther south, George Cox of Performance Machine in Springfield, VA does an awesome job, stands behind any work he does, and is reasonable to boot.

The bob weight has probably changed a bunch with the after market rods and pistons.

YES ... not just a "good idea" but, a necessity.

Re: To balance or not
Hmmm........why is it we always pay double up here???
$450.00 for a balance job...........pistons all within 1 gram (not touched), rods within 1 gram (not touched), billet crank had approx 100 grams taken out.....?
AND, I asked for the balance sheet after I paid the bill, and he was all surprised, and had to go back to the machinist and photocopy it???

No, no mallory, crank had been balanced before, but I went with a lot lighter piston.

Re: To balance or not
What all did he need to have?, i only did it once years ago with a 302 and the guy needed the pistons, pins, rings, rods,(rod bearings i cant remember) the dampner and flexplate. Is it the same on a 70 460 ?kjett wrote:I'm extremely happy I did mine. Re: To balance or not
I'll make sure i take all of it then, even the crank spacer if thats what its called the heavy round thing behind the dampner.Do you think arp main studs are needed for this build or will the factory bolts be fine ? Also i have a cam bearing ? my buddy gave me a new set of cam bearings that was left with a bunch of other parts in a new garage/parts store he bought. The're perfect circle #sh-1111 s for a 429-460 two of them say 6.95 and the other three say 5.95 . I dont know how old they are but they look new. The insides look like a bunch of tiny bumps and its been a while since i bought cam bearings and cant remember the look of the insides.
