I took my junk to the track tonight
The last time out the truck went 12.98@102mph.
This time I have a different converter(3500 stall) and better headers, everything else is exactly the same as before.
The truck went 12.73@ 101mph. I left the time slip in the truck so I don't have the 60ft or 1/8 in front of me but it did pick up. The temperature and humidity was alot higher than the last time also.
The shifts were real firm but pulled the engine down a bunch this time. I think shifting at a higher rpm might help a little but these 3.50 gears are killing me.
The water pump crapped out on me after that 12.73 pass and ended my night.
One odd thing I haven't figured out is my autometer shift light has a 5200 chip and I shifted when the light came on. My tach has a memory recall and says my max rpm was only 4500.
I want to play around with my shifts rpm some but think the high rear gear is going to be a problem.
I have a video I'll try to get posted tomorrow.

Keep plugging away at it bud. If it was easy everybody would be doing it. You definately need some deeper gears, but get the feel of if first.

Mike ,that's not bad at all. That's close to the 7 second range in the 1/8
Bring that shift up and it should help some too. Good luck

Re: I took my junk to the track tonight
I was watching the video and heard the truck breaking up some. I think maybe something is in the carb or the plugs need replaced. It needs gone through before I go back to the track.
Keith it's a 472ci, 0 decked, flattops
Dove heads ported with big valves
8012 stealth intake, Bigs 850 carb
small hyd cam .554/.576 lift
rollerized C6 with Frank Merkls transbrake
9", ladder bars, coilovers
In a 82 f150 @ around 4000lbs ( haven't had it on the scales yet)

Yea, more gear might be an idea. How tall are the slicks?
[edit] I found it, 29.5"

Re: I took my junk to the track tonight
I wouldn't call a truck that runs a 12 sec pass junk! The first time I ran the 1/4 I ran 12 seconds and I thought I was Bob Glidden.
Keep it up man.
What track do you run at?

Re: I took my junk to the track tonight
Mike it looked like a nice run looks like you have the ladderbars set about right.Mike you said your tach is not reading the same, in the vid it did sound to want to bust up alittle before you shifted. When you change the plugs and get back to the track if it still wants to bust up alittle disconnect your tach and try it.My brother had put a tach one time in his 69 mach 1 him and daddy chased the miss in it for 2 weeks. We were at the track that weekend and when daddy got back to the pits after the 1st run he unhooked the tach and the car never busted up again and put the Duster back on the trailer that won the week before.Just something you might want to check if the missing stays after you tune it up.

Re: I took my junk to the track tonight
Anyone have a suggestion for gear ratio?
I have truck rods so I don't realy want to wind it up too high. I figure between 5500 and 6000rpm is doable.
For what it's worth my cam card says max rpm 5700, valves float @ 6500.
Guess I need to follow Blakes gear ratio post to learn some stuff.
Justin the track is "No Limit Raceway" use to be US41 near Morocco Indiana.
Thanks guys
I have a huge learning curve to overcome with this 1/4 mile stuff and the help I get here is priceless.

12's in a heavy truck like that is great! Keep plugging away Mike. Your engine is similar to the one I gave my brother for his 47 Ford Truck. The best I did in the Fairlane with that was 12.7 @ 108 on drag radials and the automatic at the time. My car weighed 3644lbs.

Hey Rich I haven't forgot about the Heartland deal you guys have at Byron.
That 12.60 class would fit my truck well right now but my crappy reaction times would put me somewhere around 14 seconds
I need alot more seat time to figure this deal out first.

That is some pretty good times with the combo. It seems odd your mph dropped though. Figure with the et you should be 104-105 going by what my dads truck runs in his truck.

I don't know why the mph dropped.
We went to the track last night and I found some more power.
I'm making a new thread so check it out.
