Out of curiosity,
Can you pull a stacker trailer with an F350? It seems too big to me but I had someone tell me that it would be ok. Something like the link below.

Re: Out of curiosity,
It will pull it, but it won't pull it well, not to mention what it will do to the longevity of the truck. There's a local trailer dealer that goes to Indiana all the time to pull new trailers home, but they are empty. Loaded would be a whole different deal in my opinion.

I was thinking something like this but then the wife thought we should buy a stacker so we could take her car and mine.

I know it's not, but that would make more sense....
If you do a stacker, make sure it's got the heavy axles and the 10 ply tires as a minimum. They are heavier than you think. Let's put it in perspective, when we raced Pro 5.0 we had a 44' United stacker and we pulled it with a Volvo toter home. We had a 450 hp Cummins under the hood and while it pulled it OK, it was far from overpowered. Bear in mind it had 1550# of torque....food for thought......

Re: Out of curiosity,
buy the stacker and a 10 year old Freightliner or Kenworth or Pete (if you want to spend more). You can find them all day for less than $20,000 and it would last forever in your app.

That's an option, however you need to be careful how you register a truck-tractor, or you could be in violation of DOT regulations. Next thing you know you will be licensing under the IRP, needing an IFTA sticker and paying Federal highway use tax, just like I do in my business. Not to mention the record keeping involved, the log book requirements, drug testing, and the need to stop at scales. If you purchase a class 8 tractor, you need to see what your state regulations are in regards to registering it as an RV. Otherwise you just opened up a whole new can of worms......

Re: Out of curiosity,
We make stackers and the smallest is a 28' stacker and it is all a F350 want empty so with 2 cars and tools and the other stuff I wouldn't go any smaller than a F450 to pull it with a 28' stacker loaded as they are 13' tall and the wind will give you a fit behind a F350.All our stacker come with the g rated tire witch is 10 ply and 7200# axles.

Re: Out of curiosity,
The long "tag along" trailer is NOT the way to go unless ALL your trips are rather local.
I can tell you from personal experience that a 42" foot "gooseneck" trailer will take two cars and extra parts along with a minor on board workshop and can easily be towed with an F350 diesel. I've pulled one all over, to and from the country's four corner mainland without a problem other than normal maintainance.

Actually Lisa thought that is what we should buy but I have a canopy on my truck and all my work stuff in it so every time I would want to use it I would have to do quite a bit of work. Easy for her but suck for me. LOL. Too bad because it is a nice trailer for a good price IMHO.

Re: Out of curiosity,
That truck will not pull a big trailer good. You need dual wheels on the back for stability. If you've never pulled with a dually ,you'll be surprised how much better they pull an enclosed.

I hear what you are saying. My dad has both single and dual trucks and I have pulled their 35' trailer with both and it is a big difference. The problem with duallys is they ride like crap empty and 99% of the time that is how I will be. If it was something I was going to use every weekend then I could justify it but I am looking at a couple times a year.

Re: Out of curiosity,
Biggest problem on the stackers is frontal area, the wind resistance is harder IMO than the weight on a truck.

Indeed. Our 44' three car stacker was $45,000 in 2006 and that was before we put the Arrow awning on it and finished the lounge area. No doubt it's a buyers market today, but they still aren't cheap....

Re: Out of curiosity,
My Crewcab rides ok, but when you hook a trailer to it . It's a great ride, I've got to check the mirrors to make sure I'm still pulling the trailer. I run my dually empty alot anymore. I only tow with it when I'm not taking the motorhome now. I really like the old truck ,it's got excellent seats and a killer A/C And a good stereo ..thanks to Nick!!

Did you get your hard brake pedal problem fixed on the dually (Vacumn pump)

What length of tag trailer would you consider the maximum? I originally was looking at 28-30' thinking that was pretty much long enough.
