Spoilers when and how much
at what point does one need a spoiler? How long and wide should it be? and what angle installed?
My car is an '88 'stang notch small block, ( 393 ) that loses traction at high speeds.

Re: Spoilers when and how much
my opinion on that deal is anything over 130 in the 1/4 should reek the benefits of a spoiler ..... now i added a front air dam to my car and this thing feels more stable at 155 + then it ever did at 137
here is the front spoiler
the rear wing is by racecraft
and the front air dam is by gary markwich Gary's get's $175 plus shipping for his spoiler. It's fiberglass and works with an LX Nose ONLY. Should look good on a GT, but you got to buy a LX bumper cover.

Nice wing. where is it attached to? My notch back has a fiberglass trunk lid , pin on type and the mounting of a wing is important. could you send more pics? The car runs on alky and the trunk needs to be opened every 2 passes for fuel.

Re: Spoilers when and how much
I guess it depends on the car, mine has always been real stable without one at 144. We'll see how it acts after I put the 1/4 mile gear back in.

Re: Spoilers when and how much
mine is 14.75 and i have a difficult time with the headers hitting when loading unless I raise the front of the trailer. I just took Jon's advice and removed the lakewoods and installed the strange adjustables

That might be true. I used to see it driving around the DFW area a bunch and he wasn't hanging his head in shame.

Re: Spoilers when and how much
I have seen these on several cars. I talked to the drivers and they swear by the spoilers.

Re: Spoilers when and how much
Larry my knowledge of the spoiler consist of this..
At above 90 Mph water droplets on the front windshield go from the lower center to the top edges of the window pillers. Like a "V" shape. On the rear window the water droplets do not move but shimmer. I would suspect that the air flow is going over the car and dropping off somewhere behind it. Exactly how far I'm not sure. I had some e-mail discussion with Tim Gibson (designer of the new body JFR Funny car). He had seemed to think I was on track with my ideas.
I do know the aftermarket spoiler @ over $200 is a cookie cutter deal and I'm sure it was made for one car.. How well that works on your car will be a different story.
If your using side mirrors there appears to be some air disruption from them as well.
Last bit.. there are rules on spoilers in the NHRA Rule book..
Best of Luck!

Re: Spoilers when and how much
If the tire spin down track is an areo thing, (and not a chassis/suspension deal), a chin spoiler & a low drag deck wing similar to Nick's setup is probably all you will need.
Remember your not trying to generate tons of down force to plant a 320 mph nitro Funny Car. Your just trying to manage the air over/around the nose of the car (instead of under) while at the same time using some of that air to also generate some usable increase (but not a go crazy) in down force at the back without also generating a bunch of air drag.
