back together again!
ok guys i put my 526 back together so i could run a little before winter.4.440x4.250,A460's.i got some 6cc small dome pistons from uncle Charlie and cut my heads .100,went from 87cc to 70.also picked up about 80cfm on the flow #'s on the intake side of the heads.worked the plenum over a lot,was stock.put the big comp cam back in it too.it's together and fired and all is well so far,BUT,the same 1150 i was running didnt want to idle for shit! today i pulled it and drilled two1/8 holes in the center by the stud and helped the rich issue a lot and the idle is fair at 1400rpm.it has the 98 jets and no p/v's,just as i ran it last.will this be a good place to start? i was thinken with the extra compression i now have i may need less jet but carbs are not my best subject it will be injected soon so i can get a handle on the setup for the 605 next year.

WE RAN 100's a lot from 112 to 114, carb probaly needs circut work, and yes we have 101's in a q16 engine right now

i'v been runnen vp113.the last pass i made with it was 5.75 which was the best pass it'd made.it ran a 5.80 with a 1050 with 92's in it.Lem Evans wrote:98s in a 1150 sounds like a lot.....unless you have Q16 in it.
this one wont see a dyno unless it realy picks up a lot, then i may dyno it when i dyno the 605 this winter.BOSS 429 wrote:have you dynod it with the carb? will you after the switch to alco?

Re: back together again!
Did you ever think about turning the 4 idle screws in 1/4-1/2 in or opening the idle air bleeds .002-.003? What's up with the 1/8" drill deal?
Oh hell.......it'd be easier and cheaper to put it on injected alky

Re: back together again!
i turned the screws all kinda ways and it was too fat. i realy didnt want to drill the air bleeds unless i tapped the holes too so i could change them again and from what i could find searching the net the holes in the body or blades would work for a fat idle.i think it's the big ass cam you sold me that caused the problem. i bet it'll drink gas too. and i dont have a high end carb so i'll put that 1200$with a little more and get the alky injection.Lem Evans wrote:Did you ever think about turning the 4 idle screws in 1/4-1/2 in or opening the idle air bleeds .002-.003? Re: back together again!
the guy that did the flow work on my heads has a ron's setup he wants me to try on it.he said a tenth faster wouldnt be out of the question but the cooling is the big reason i want it.i also put the little double pass radiator on it and can tell you now it aint gona cool as good as the big one but the big jump in compression could be part of it.

Re: back together again!
well, mixed resuls.the car worked very good,no more big sky!the bad news is the converter is too tight.i only made 3 passes and the first realy dont count.2nd pass i left at 3200 shift at 7000,1.30 60',5.64-124mph.changed carb for the last pass and realy shouldnt have.4000 launch 1.27 60',5.67-122. i checked the stall today and only goen to 4800.was 5000 before the work on the heads and compression jump but i also put the comp cam back in it and it dont get started good till about 6000 286/292@.050-807/814.where should the converter be?2600#car,4.86gear,33"tire and a glide.now i have a tight 9"converter.

Listen to Lem................ Leave the jets alone, just add Q-16 and a 6000 converter................
This will be another example of a good engine that never got a good shake on gas before putting it on alky and every one will think that alcohol is the hp hero. (I know you have cooling issues too)
No one has proven to me it is, (on a good engine). Not saying it isn't I just don't know if it is.
When some one gets all they can out of a gas set up on a good engine, then goes to alky and picks up e.t.and MPH I will concede.
