4 bolt block ?
The rules for my class require an OEM block. I would like to get a 4 bolt block. Are the original cobra jet 4 bolt blocks any better than a 2 bolt block converted to 4 bolt? What would be more cost effective, buying a factory 4 bolt block, or converting a 2 bolt block?

Hey, Mitch: When you can find a good factory 4 bolt CJ block, it usually has a premium price tag attached. On the other hand, a D0VE-A block is somewhat easier to find and usually cheaper. On the strength factor, it has been said by many that a splayed 4 bolt conversion done to a factory 2 bolt block is stronger. For my money, I would go for a good D0VE-A block, and have it converted to a 4 bolt. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it (LOL)!

Doesn't the A-460 block have a Ford part number on it, making it an OEM block?

Keep in mind that the CJ 4 bolt blocks have the outer bolts in a vertical rather than splayed configuration. While better than a 2 bolt block, they will still exhibit cap walk in high horsepower applications. I'd opt for the DOVE block conversion with 4 bolt splayed caps given your OEM block restriction.

Good point.......I always ask "do they mean OEM or do they mean production OEM ?"Greg_P wrote:Doesn't the A-460 block have a Ford part number on it, making it an OEM block?
Re: 4 bolt block ?
Depends on what you can buy a SCJ block for and what it'll cost you convert the 2 bolt unit and the budget available.
