flex plate ring ?

the ring on the back of the flex plate the bolts go through do you have to use it ? the reason i ask is one 460 has it and one didn't. do you guys use them or chuck them ?

I've seen one without the ring, and it had hairline cracks running from bolt hole to bolt hole! When I took it off the engine, the center fell out! It's the only one I recall seeing without the ring, and it's the only one that I've seen broken like that! Cheap insurance?

Run the ring. It will stabilize your surface area at the mounting holes.

Kool thanks Al let me know how it turns out.

Make sure that ditching that ring won't make the bolts stick too far through the crank flange and contact the block. Probably won't happen, but I've heard of it happening before.
