Wild weekend
Thanks guys,
I was just trying to be like Gary, now known as "Mr.Hollywood".
He was surrounded by girls and TV crews all weekend.
We did have a great time at Columbus.
This Unleashed series is going to be a hit. It is a refreshing change from "all electronics" throttle stop and full tree bracket racing.
The 10.5, Outlaw and Pro Mod classes are fun to watch.
The index classes, 8.50, 9.00, 9.50, 10.00, 11.00,12.00 and 13.00 all run heads-up on a Pro tree, with no timed throttle stops or delay boxes allowed. This is where most of us normal racers can fit in to this program. The entry fee is reasonable and the payout is good.
The old 58 is struggling with leaving WFO without spinning the tires due to it's nose heavy design and a good bit of torque from the 605.
I had terrible lights this weekend, but the MPH of the good old 605 seemed to pull me through. It will run 9.50 at about 146 or 147....with the timing backed WAY off to make it hook and the dial it in to the 9.5 index. Most of the Chevys are running about 138 to 143 MPH. I also shift it way early to help with making the index adjustment.
The final was pretty tight. I got treed.....and ran 9.497 to his 9.506.
1110 mile round trip was smooth. The 58 was fun. After eliminations began, I never lifted the hood. The only tools that I used all weekend included rpm chips for shift point and retard chips for the MSD.
More to come...I gotta make the 60 foots more consistent.
Thanks!
Keith

It sure would have been nice to get that Wally!
Yeah....the TV show is supposed to be really nice.
They have the first show done. One of the production folks said that the program was "very cool".
It is supposed to highlight the sportsman racers and what we do...and why...instead of just covering the race.
Thanks!
Keith

Re: Congrats Keith Fulp
Yep, they were just there asking me where they could find you! This unleashed thing is really fun, I gave the semi's away, had him .011 to .038 on the tree, started scrubbing the brakes a little too early on the big end, he sprayed the juice and got around me by.011. Hindsight, I was not on a breakout run so I coulda stayed in it. Now to show how stupid I was, I have been racing with this guy for many years. He is a great driver and I KNEW he would spray if he had to. I am still kicking myself over that one.Wheelie58 wrote:Thanks guys,

Blind hog finds an acorn
Guys...thanks for all of the nice comments.
The "super" trans brake and my new AFCO shocks sure helped, but I just could not hit the tree last weekend. I must get back on a practice tree program.
Hopefully these Youtube links will work. A buddy taped the Semi and Final.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlXHFimXQ9U -- semi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iM-a4GSPJM -- Final
In both runs, you can see how the other car "takes off" while the timing is retarded somewhere between 15 and 28 degrees while my car is in low gear. The 605 has to go chase them down on the other end. It usually takes the other guy by surprise at about 1100 ft.
Thanks!
Keith
