New carb from B.F.Evans Raceparts
After having issues with my ProSystems carb last weekend , I called Lem on Monday and ordered a Quick Fuel Q950 carb.Because Lem and Shawn arranged to have it drop shipped from a warehouse in Michigan and I got it the next day. I put it on right away and it seems to be an improvement over what I had. The car starts easier and settles down to an idle a lot quicker than my old carb. The old carb ran pretty good at full throttle, but it didn't seem to like to run at part throttle. It was running so rich last weekend that it pumped my crankcase full of gas and fouled out a set of new plugs. Hey, the carb not only looks good, it seems to run better too. I'm going to head over to the Mid Michigan Motorplex this weekend for their Test And Tune Invitational Bracket Race, so I should find out if it runs any better. I bought a new set of Hoosier DOT Drag Radial slicks and put 190# of lead over the rear axle for ballast to see if I can get this thing to go down the track without spinning the tires!

Not really, it's been to the track only once before at Milan last fall. It ran a tire smoking 11.67 @122. I'm just tired of fuel in my oil and fouled plugs!

While Patrick is good, sometimes he misses the mark. When he did our 1050 Dominators, he missed the jetting big time. Engine wouldn't even run on his jetting recommendations. Took many trips back and forth before he got the metering blocks right. Shipping got a little spendy.........

If you send me your P51 heads to use, I'd send you a picture showing how they'd look with my shiny new carb. I'm sure they'd make my car go faster!D's557BBF wrote:Hey Gary, post some pictures man!! this thread is useless without them

This Friday and Saturday, Mid Michigan Motorplex has the "Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Racing" association at the track. Great place to see a lot of restored to factory stock cars actually race and not just at a car show; (stock Polyglass tires and all). The Supercharged Studebakers, early 60's muscle cars, (before they were even envisioned to be called muscle cars), Pontiac Royal Bobcats, ZL-1 Camaros, Hemi Cuda's, Mercury Cougar Eliminators, L-88 Corvettes, AMX's, 427 Galaxy's and a lot more actually racing one another down the 1/4 mile really is an amazing thing to see.
Charlie would like the restored Grand Sports I'm sure.
The fastest car there today was an L-88 Corvette 1969 which went 11.53 @121.5 MPH in totally stock , restored trim.
The ONLY rule is that the car had to be sold to the general public with a full manufacturers warrantee in it's day.
I give these bunch of rich guys with overpriced toys a lot of credit for doing more with their stuff than simply waxing their garage, show queens.
I don't know what is there Sunday.

How did the Paxton-blown Stude Larks run? A few years ago they were putting Yenko Camaros on the trailer. Just with a little 289 motor..

It's the rentthetrack.com invitational, time trials and test & tune from 10-3, then bracket racing from 3-6. Because the track isn't running the show the TECH is a little more forgiving, they'll let you run even if you might not be up to NHRA rules. If the car is unsafe, they won't let you run. If you have a fast street driven car that is basically safe but might not be legal under NHRA rules, they'll let you run as long as you aren't silly fast! I'm going to be there trying out my new Hoosier drag radials and my QFT carb. Hopefully the 190# ballast I put in will give me the consistency I need so that I can figure out what is going on with the suspension and start to make some adjustments. Anything will be better than just going up in smoke at the hit of the throttle! If things go well, I'll post up my results.rmcomprandy wrote:I don't know what is there Sunday.

P.S.: I'm sure that Randy Malik snickered a little when he saw that I bought a new carb, that's what he said I needed to do back when he dynoed my motor in 2008. I guess I'm just a slow learner!

That sounds like my kind of race to watch.I'm all about older racecars.
I was reading a article about some of the cars in the F.A.S.T series. I guess some of the faster cars in the class are getting mighty close to the 9.99 sec.area and when the series was setup they never dreamed that a heavy stock appearing car w/stock(bias) tires, street manifolds would ever be even close to 10's. So now they are in a deliema w/NHRA chassis cert's and safety rules for the cars when they get there. One LT1 Corvette has already ran a 10.18 I think. So this should be interesting

As you said, the FAST cars simply need to be stock APPEARING. Most are well over 500 cubic inches with the stock APPEARING hardware on the outside.
I personally have been inside a 511 inch, big cammed "389" Pontiac for this FAST class of cars.
Factory intake systems, good flowing factory exhaust manifolds and tire size seems to be their limiting factors.
These cars here normally run at the same events with the FAST cars. I believe this is the only event they have "all their own".
