Bench Racing: 5.50 BBF needed for 3200# chassis Empty Bench Racing: 5.50 BBF needed for 3200# chassis

Need some bench racing advice. In Tennessee there is a semi heads up class gaining popularity called "Cheap Street" at the 1/8 mile tracks. The dominant combo is small blocks with fogger systems at 3100 lbs. Nitrous systems are limited by a -4 line size restriction. However, big blocks can run at 3200 N/A and 3400 lbs power adder. Note they say that big blocks have to be "conventional heads". The main premise of the class is that if you run faster than 5.50, then they add 100# for every tenth at your next pass.

So here is my question to bench race; could one build a N/A BBF that could run 5.50's with a conventional head? Could P51's make the number without a massive cam? I'm guessing that the minimum flywheel hp is somewhere north of 925 - 950 hp at 3200 lbs with a Powerglide. What is the thinking on conventional heads, as this combination would be easily attained with A460's or even C460's.

Just researching for a build in the next year or two; thanks in advance.

I would think that would be easy NA with a bbf. What I don't understand is why a sb needs a fogger to run a 50 at 3100lbs.

850 hp and a well sorted chassis/converter/gearing would be easy with a n/a BB. Pretty much anything 550 or so inches, race compression and cam.....pick a conventional aluminum head of choice and work it good.

x3 and if you build it right they should give you some margin to run under.
