Any of you Michigan guys know of a good body shop that could straighten the frame on my Mustang? I stopped and talked to a couple of local shops that do frame straightening and I'm not sure I want either of them to do it. The 1st place that a friend recomended is Anschutz Chevrolet in Alpena, I showed them pictures of the damage and they said they could probably fix it. They primarily work on mom & pops Buick and might be shocked that my car is not "stock" - tubular kmember/control arms, coilovers w/caster camber etc. I'm afraid that they'll panic when they go to do it and they find all the aftermarket parts in it! The other place in Onaway is the opposite extreme. He said he doesn't like repro parts because they are unsafe and that he would get used front stub from a southern salvage yard and use whatever is needed. I can handle that, but then he talked about bending and welding tubing from the repair area to the strut tower thru the firewall. I explained to him that this is a street car that occasionally goes to the strip and not a race car! I do not want a full cage, I had the engine detuned for streetability and built the car specifically for running low 10's @ about 130 w/ a small shot of NOS and no faster. I don't need no stinking race car since the nearest track is over 3hrs away. I want the frame back to "stock" maybe with some extra plates welded on to restore it's strength and will take this thing anywhere in Michigan in order to get it fixed right.
Let me know if you have a shop to recommend!
Gary

Gary I got a good buddy in Midland who owns a body repair shop and does excellent work.

The place is called Body Shop by Daniel, his name is Dan, the phone # is 989-636-7734. Tell him Mike Jaworski said to call.

Gary, This is just a thought....How about just getting yourself another mustang and putting all of your parts on the new mustang. Them Foxbody's are everywhere and it might even be cheaper and safer in the long run. Twisted Evil

Not really, My daughter used to live in Westland and now she's in Commerce Township. Her husband is a Livonia Cop, and my daughter is currently attending the Schoolcraft College Police Academy. I buy my tires and wheels from either Harlow Race Tire or McCormack Racing.

I'll plan on checking them out, Thanks!

My car is completely rust free, they are getting hard to find. When you figure I've got a chromemoly rollbar, subframe connectors, mini tub, welded and reinforced torque boxes and other additions that I'd have to do over, It would take me 5 years before I could afford to buy a car and build it back to what I currently have. I'd probably just part it out and save the engine for a mud truck! A good roller at the right price might be an option if I could find one. My personal preference is since it is a street car, I'd prefer not to have a full cage.
Maybe the body shop at B.F.Evans could fix it ? I'm sure they must have straightened out a few race cars for Lem and Charlie through the years. Then I could haul it over to 56tbird and see if he would want to paint it for me!

I'll take the car anywhere in Michigan to get it fixed right, even further if I have to! I can't say that "cost is of no concern", but I'd rather spend the money and get it fixed right then try to cut corners and end up with a messed up car that doesn't drive right!

I had a guy from a local body shop look at it and he figured he wouldn't have any problem straightening it out and putting a new core support in it, but he never gave me an estimate. I'm trying to figure out what all I'll need to fix it. I'm not sure if I should go with a repro core support or get a used one from a junkyard. A buddy of mine that does body work says some of the repro stuff isn't welded right and the spot welds pop. I want to get the whole car painted, but I'm not sure who I should have paint it. I'm probably going to have Don's Body Shop in Rogers City fix the frame, but I'm not sure if I want them to paint the whole car. They painted my buddies 75 Vette and it came out pretty good, not perfect but definitely better than average. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm probably just going to let it sit until I come home in January and hopefully have figured out what I want to do by then. Or I could push it into the back corner of my buddies pole barn and let it sit for awhile.
