minitub for a 68 stang
I would like to mini tub my 68 and sure would like some pics and info... lots of stuff out there for the fox but not to much for the older stuff. And with work slowin down I have a little more spare time to work on it just not a lot of money. I thought about moving the leafs in or maybe a 4 bar setup with coilovers? Car will be mostly street driven. Thanks Ken

With the early Mustang's stock rear floor/frame rail shape a ladder bar will take up less room height wise, but take up more room length wise. An aftermarket "drag racing" 4-link will take up more room height wise, but less room length wise.
But the ladder bar's longer length probably won't be an issue in a 107-108" wheel base car that sits around stock ride height off the ground, & if the driver seat is going to be staying in/around the stock seat location. On low slung back-half & full chassis ladder bar cars, if you move the driver seat back too far you get a ladder bar in the ass.
For a "real" street driven car, ladder bars really aren't the best idea as they don't allow any needed body roll. They can work on the street........you just have to be careful & watch how you drive the car around town.
And if your going to the effort of mini-tubing the car, why tie one hand behind your back by keeping the leaf springs & having to use housing floaters. Go with a set of "drag racing" valved coil over shocks.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I should have stated that I don't have a problem with taking out the original trunk or rails. I bought this car 25 years ago and it had rust issues. So the rear section of the rails have been replaced along with sections of the trunk. But I'm not really satisfied with the patch job we did way back when. I'm only an hour away from Autoweld chassis and have bin throwin the idea around of gettin a set of there formed rails an startin over again. the only thing I don't want to mess with are the quarters and outer wheel houses, They were new from Ford 20 years ago and I really don't want to cut up NOS stuff. I would really like to go with a low profile wide tire. I plan on shortening up the rear a little an goin with 4 wheel discs to. Thanks Ken

The autoweld rails I have look good quality wise. They go straight back instead of tapering out like most factory rails. This allows a lot more tire room with out really sacrificing trunk room. Crites makes a mini tub kit for moving the stock leaf spring in but I couldn't find it on their site. www.critesrestoration.com
While not optimum like dilligsdave mentioned if it is just going to be just a street car and you are going for a look that is what I would do. It will ride like stock and be low maintenance.

I put ladderbars and a cheap coilover kit on it years before this, I had it all under the stock rear subframe. I actually went to mini tub it and it was easier to just cut it all out and start over. I made the rails to fit everything had already, i just used some 2x3 tubing an cut and welded it to fit my needs.
Not the trickest set up, bit i think I have less than 300 bucks in the material. I put a good set of Afco double adj shocks and rear dic brakes on it at the same time.

A lot of the stuff I said in another post applies to this post as well..........

In short any true street and strip car will have to be a compromise in either ride quality or track performance (or both) to some degree.
