1 - 1/4 tap
Anybody got a tap that I can buy or borrow to tap my freeze plugs? I bought a harbor freight one and started the first hole and the threads on the tap broke, damn cheap harbor freight tools.

That's the difference between a carbon steel tap and one made from High Speed Steel. javascript:emoticonp('')

It,s an R&N tap, got it from a closed machine shop auction. Lists for around $140.00. Keep an eye on Ebay, good stuff is always going through, you just have to watch for it.

Make sure the tap you purchase has four flutes and not three. I had Grainger order mine.....I don't recall what it cost.

Don't you actually need two taps? I recall that you can't run one deep enough without hitting the cyl walls. So you'll need a second one to cut down and finish the job?
