 460 Balancing ?  Empty 460 Balancing ?

The balance man called and said he's having a problem balancing one of the motors,its the one thats using the heavy azz trw 2404 pistons and he said he can balance it out a few ways, one is to add a hachet weight like the external balance motors use and probley add or remove weight from the flexplate (cant remember which) or go the high dollar route and add mallory to the crank. I'm wondering if the guy who sold me the d3 block gave me a external balance crank to go with it ? is there a way to tell from looking at both cranks or diffrent numbers on them ? or is this common with those heavy trw slugs ?

You can tell exactly what it ORIGINALLY was by what the casting number on the crankshaft is.

An earlier crank can be modified to later specs but, not the other way around.

To save a few bucks and still not have side loading on the snout of the crankshaft you can use an EXTERNAL balanced flexplate/flywheel on the rear and use Mallory to internal balance the front.

The end result will be very similar to a 428 FE crankshaft balance.

Thanks i will call the balance shop and get the casting numbers and post them.

The shop called the number is a 3ya is that the external balance crank ?

Thanks Dave ,this sucks o well i learn somthing new everyday now i gotta get a hachet weight and get a external balance flexplate its just the delay that sucks.
