Re: New from Oregon
At that hp level I will assume that you are running a roller cam. With the A460 block you should be running a restrictor in the oil gallery that supplies the lifter galleries. Most guys end up around .0625 but I have heard of a few at .040. You also need to make sure that your lifters are oriented in the block so as to prevent the oil supply hole from ever seeing direct oil pressure.

Yes a roller cam--lifters are oriented correct-yes have .040 restriction-- The oile prob is centered around the external oil pump--losing prime.

Re: New from Oregon
You said you had .040 restricted pushrods, do you also have a .040 drilled gallery plug? Are you saying the pump looses its prime with the motor running or when its off?

After a pass-oil preasure drops off eventially to 0--we have a accusump-3 qt.--and external oil pump.
We are now thinking the pump is overwellming the paper element filter and causing the pump to bypass-we are going to try an inline filter with no by pass.
I'll keep you posted.

Re: New from Oregon
Wow. Sounds like you have the right parts.
Not trying to badger you or belabour the point but it is crucial on a build of this kind to have the right restrictor inside the block. Without it you will push to much oil to the top end of the engine and pump the oil pan down enough to lose oil pressure. It is a very common problem.
What part of Oregon are you in? There is a guy named Ken Heard at Oregon Cams in Vancouver WA. He is very knowledgable on the 460 stuff. If you are close he might be a local resource for you.

Thanks -yes we do know Ken-haven't discussed with him yet.-will wait to see if this in line filter w/o bypass will solve the issue

Hi We were running a Moroso Filter ---but have since instaled a Peterson in line filter--Snow has set in so we haven't tested--can't find chains big enough to fit--I will post results when we do---One promising fact is that the pump self primed itself after changing filters.
