Jon ? on 06 6.0
Jon I have a friend that has a f350 with the 6.0 he said it was loosing water. He said he notice the temp gauge was going up and he could let off and it would go down so he stoped and checked the water in it, it was low so he filled it back up. Ran good temp sayed down checked when he got home for leakes he did not find any. That was about 2 weeks ago he brought me some parts to work and the temp started climbing again we checked it and it was low again.I went and got some water to add to it filled it put the cap back he left it running we talked about 10 or 15 mins.I noticed some water coming out under it we open the hood and it was pushing it back out of the tank. The engine run fine with no miss or anything just trying to push all the water out. I told him I thought it might be a head gasket he said it only has 82,000 on it and never been ran hot but I told him it is a 6.0 not a 7.3 the are known to have head gaskit problems.Does it sound like a head gasket to you or something ealse.
Thanks Jim

if no external leaks then its cooler time................and if it still pushes coolant out the cap its headgasket time.
If its out of warranty and he has to get it done...............do what we call a 6.0 tuneup.........pull cab, both coolers, headgaskets, stc fitting, both dummy plugs, egr valve, FICM halfshell, turbo CHRA, all filters etc.
Otherwise warranty will cover only whats broke at the time..........if you fix the stuff it will need sooner or later its over repaired........when it comes back for the other stuff its a repeat VIN..........my job sucks as I'm in the middle.
If its never had any issues...it will with all I mentioned and some at some point in its life..........it cant help it.

I just changed my oil/egr coolers. Is the truck blowing white smoke out the exhaust? If it is, he might be lucky and it's just the egr cooler. Mine didn't push coolant out the degas, just ate lots of it and smoked occasionally, and got worse as time went on. There's a simple test you can do from the degas tank that will kind of point you in the right direction as to whether it's HG or egr. Can't quite remember what to do, you seal the degas and run a hose out into a bottle and watch for bubbles, then do something else (unplug egr valve??) and see if the bubbles change. There's a link to it on the Ford-trucks site somewhere.

If the egr cooler is leaking its mandatory to replace the oil cooler or at least the heat exchanger portion...........otherwise its gonna happen again real soon.
